Michigan Draft Gore Needs Your Help

by: NYPopulist

Wed Oct 03, 2007 at 23:48:35 PM EDT

Earlier tonight I published a very extensive diary over at Daily Kos outlining everything the Draft Gore movement has been up to - and boy, let me tell you, there was a lot of outlining to do.  The absolute highest priority right now, however, is gathering the 12,396 valid signatures to get Gore on the Michigan primary ballot should he choose to run.
NYPopulist :: Michigan Draft Gore Needs Your Help
Thousands of already been collected and  our volunteers are doing are doing everything they can to surpass the required minimum.  To give you an idea of what they're doing, here's an email I got from state co-chair Doug Kelley about "a day in the Michigan campaign:"

Here's a report on our 14-hour day of Ann Arbor activity in the petition campaign, yesterday.  I'm also sending it to the America for Gore steering committee members, as a run-up to tonight's conference call, and to a few of our Washtenaw Gore activists.

1)  In yesterday afternoon's Washtenaw County Democratic Party "Electionfest" fundraiser, 90 Dem activists voted in a presidential straw poll.  (In advance I had insisted that Gore be included on the pre-printed ballot.) The results:  Gore, 25;  Obama, 25;  H.Clinton, 15;  Edwards, 11 Kucinich, 7; Richardson, 4; and Biden, Dodd, and Gravel, 1 each. Three-minute speeches were given, for each candidate; copies of my 8-Gore-points for '08 speech are available.

2)  Working in teams of three at the Farmers Market in the morning, at Electionfest in the afternoon, and as people entered an Ann Arbor Symphony concert in the evening) collected over 150 petition signatures during the day -- over 50 in each of the three locations.

3) During the day I provided petition kits and instructions to 6 new petition circulators. I have their contact info and will keep in touch with them.

You read that right, they're pulling 14-hour days to pull this off.  Their work hasn't gone unnoticed either - major news outlet after news outlet (after news outlet, after news outlet) have picked up on the story, as had Michael Moore, a Michigan native, on his website.

But they need your help.  As you can imagine, with such a tight deadline looming, costs of running such an operation as their are very high.  Supporting our Michigan team is a high priority right now, so any help you could provide, whether it be volunteering or donating, is much appreciated.  Here are the instructions to donate:

1) Click on this link to go to the proper PayPal page.
2) Either sign in (existing PayPal users) or simply enter the information in the box on the right.
3) The email address to send money to us VolstoDraftGore2008@gmail.com.
4) Choose Service/Other.
5) Click continue and follow any remaining instructions.

If you truly want Al to run and know deep in your heart that he is the most qualified man or woman in the country for the presidency, please help however you can.  With as few as two to three weeks remaining before Gore makes a decision, every single day and every single volunteer is incredibly crucial to the effort.

Born loser. (0.00 / 0)
Gore is a born loser.  Give it up.  If he had the spine to be President, he wouldn't have folded in the face of the GOP intimidation machine in 2000.

Yeah... (0.00 / 0)
because after losing in the Supreme Court, he should have appealed the case to the Intergalactic Council.  Gore was the first major politician - before Obama - to speak out against the war, he has single handedly made climate change a global priority, and he would be the only major candidate in support of single-payer health care.

If only he had appealed Bush v. Gore to the Intergalactic Council...

I am not talking about the Supreme Court decision.  I am talking about the GOP intimidation tactics and the lack of a Gore response. His lack of spine in the face of those fascist little bastards was and is inexcusable.

I didn't (0.00 / 0)
realize you were Gore's campaign manager seven years ago and know everything he did and didn't do.  There's something called the media that relays information between campaigns and regular folk like me and you, and we all know how the media treated Gore in 2000.  That being said, Gore has openly said he has regrets from the 2000 campaign and made mistakes that he would avoid should he ever run again.

If you don't mind me asking, which candidate do you support, and how are they better on the issues and better from an experience standpoint than Al?

Why would anyone in Michigan vote for someone (0.00 / 0)
Why would anyone in Michigan vote for someone who hates the auto industry?

Umm... (0.00 / 0)
For what it's worth, hybrids would not be nearly as popular if it weren't for the work of Gore - it's unfair to lay a blanket statement on Al like that.

But as far as who would vote for him...lets see...Michigan voted for him in 2000, and in a Michigan primary poll from a couple months ago, Gore wins.

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for taking care of this one, NYP (0.00 / 0)
I just wish it had attracted folks other than an anti-Gore person who joined MichLib fairly recently and loves to post anti-Gore stuff.

Oh -- and a Republican (0.00 / 0)

sorry (0.00 / 1)
Sorry i don't pass your litmus test on membership.  Shouldn't you be taking Nancy Skinner to her AA meeting today?  Or perhaps over to the unemployment line to pick up her check?

Anyway, I don't love to post anti-gore stuff. I am just calling them like I see em.  He is a loser. He had his chance in 2000.  Heck, he had his chance AGAIN earlier this year and flinched.  No guts, not glory.

Keeping it real...

It wouldn't be anonymous if she said...would it? (0.00 / 0)
And I concur...he had his chance earlier this year and didn't take it.

A leader shouldn't have to be "drafted", they should step forward.

I suppose (0.00 / 0)
you'd like to give up our Senate majority then, as Jim Webb had to be drafted into the race.

Just because others have been running for President for over a year now doesn't mean Gore has to?  He had his chance earlier this year?  Bill Clinton in 1992, who had far far less name recognition and support than Gore does now, entered the race in October.  Your argument doesn't hold any water.

Wrong (0.00 / 0)
I have no problem with drafting a candidate in general.  My problem is drafting this particular candidate specifically.  He is flawed.

As for getting in the race at this point in time and using Clinton '92 as an example.  Well, that just shows your faulty logic.  Sure the big dog got in at this time at '92 but the world was a different place.  His entire primary budget was $12 million.  Thats for the whole shebang.

There isn't that much unpledged Democratic money out there for him to make an impact.  The only way anyone else gets in is if Obama or Edwards withdraws for some reason. There is no more oxygen left in the room for some one else.

Its too late for Gore.  The gutless never win.
