Debbie Dingell hearts Anuzis: involuntary servitude for Obama etc.

by: David Boyle

Thu Oct 11, 2007 at 22:23:48 PM EDT

"I thought I had seen everything", but the wife of the congressman from General Motors never fails to disappoint: see DetNews, State Dems, Republicans seek to preserve presidential primary, courtesy of "Mike Bishop's Fav'rit Blog",

Political leaders of both parties are pushing for the state Legislature to place the names of four Democratic presidential candidates back on the Jan. 15 primary ballot, trying to undo the damage to Michigan's political clout when the candidates removed their names from consideration this week.
Democratic National Committee member Debbie Dingell and state GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis both support the idea; Anuzis said today the Republican leaders of both chambers of the Legislature are on board. ...
"We have to be prepared to play hardball," said Dingell, the wife of U.S. Rep John Dingell, D-Dearborn, and a prime mover in the bid to challenge Iowa and New Hampshire. ...

That's just what Michigan's image needs: a white woman (person) who married into power, forcing an African American (Obama) and a Latino (Richardson), plus some others, to be forced to do something they don't want to do.
And cuddling up with "Super Saul" Anuzis to do it. Now isn't that special.

Wasn't involuntary servitude abolished a long time ago??

...Why hasn't Debbie Dingell resigned from her position at the DNC, or been forcibly removed from it? She isn't happy there. And she clearly has no respect for the DNC, or maybe for anyone else either, maybe. (Except for her husband or General Motors--hard to tell the difference between them--, and Hillary, who could advance Debbie's career.)

Yes, involuntary servitude got abolished a long time ago (that "Civil War" thing), but not everyone has noticed, I guess...

Debbie Stabenow is o.k. (0.00 / 0)
  in some ways.
  Not all Debbies are though.

I've supported Michigan's attempt (4.00 / 3)
to push itself up into the front states, but the handwriting is on the wall.  It's time to wake up and smell the coffee, admit defeat and go back to a DNC-sanctioned caucus in February.

I'll have a diary tomorrow, but in that vein, my resolution on the matter during the Kent County Democratic Party monthly meeting passed:

Resolved: The Kent County Democratic Party believes that a 15 January primary that chooses no National Convention delegates and gives Michigan voters a very limited choice from the Democratic presidential field is not in the interest of Michigan or the Michigan Democratic Party.

Therefore, the Kent County Democratic Party strongly encourages the Michigan Democratic Party and its Chair Mark Brewer to opt out of the 15 January primary and return to a DNC-sanctioned Caucus on or after 5 February 2008.

Hope Edwards is in the Feb. 5/Feb. 9 caucus...

Come on (0.00 / 0)
This is a reach, even for you, David. Now you're calling Debbie Dingell a wannabe slavemaster for feeling slighted by Obama, Richardson (and the VERY white) Edwards?

Ridiculous. You sound like Al Sharpton or Sean Hannity with this strawman crap.

Not quite (0.00 / 0)
It does seem a little creepy, though, seeing Obama (and Richardson) jerked around by the Establishment. And yes, Debbie D is more Establishment than they are.

I don't get it. (0.00 / 0)
Why is Mr. Boyle more loyal to the DNC than the state of Michigan?

"Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going. Wooooo!" -- Ric Flair

Integrity, rule of law (4.00 / 1)
are more the issues than loyalty.

And the MDP is not the state of Michigan; see my current recommended diary on ENFRANCHISING Michigan voters.

  Have a blessed day.

The rule of law (0.00 / 0)

How's this for the rule of law, David?

Public Act 52 of 2007:  AN ACT to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "An act to reorganize, consolidate, and add to the election laws; to provide for election officials and prescribe their powers and duties; to prescribe the powers and duties of certain state departments, state agencies, and state and local officials and employees; to provide for the nomination and election of candidates for public office; to provide for the resignation, removal, and recall of certain public officers; to provide for the filling of vacancies in public office; to provide for and regulate primaries and elections; to provide for the purity of elections; to guard against the abuse of the elective franchise; to define violations of this act; to provide appropriations; to prescribe penalties and provide remedies; and to repeal certain acts and all other acts inconsistent with this act," by amending sections 613a, 614a, 615a, 616a, 624g, 641, and 759a (MCL 168.613a, 168.614a, 168.615a, 168.616a, 168.624g, 168.641, and 168.759a), section 613a as amended by 2003 PA 13, sections 614a and 615a as amended by 1999 PA 72, section 616a as added by 1988 PA 275, section 624g as amended by 1990 PA 7, section 641 as amended by 2005 PA 71, and section 759a as amended by 2006 PA 605, and by adding sections 19, 615c, and 759c; and to repeal acts and parts of acts.

Seems like the law to me.

Some "laws" break others, (0.00 / 0)
other laws or rules, as you may have noted...

[ Parent ]
Of course (0.00 / 0)
And that's what makes them laws. New laws replace old ones. Most laws you find "break" older laws, so what on earth is your point?

[ Parent ]
No, they may supersede (0.00 / 0)
, often, but that's not the same as breaking a law; just writing a new one, overturning the old, etc.

best outcome for me at this point... (4.00 / 1)
Brewer sees nothing is to be gained by sticking to 15 Jan, opts out and into the previously-scheduled 9 Feb caucus, so I get to at least vote for my guy (Obama). Then, the Republicans stick to their 15 Jan primary, and I get to vote there too (Republican for a day!), for Ron Paul, just to stir their pot a bit. Hee!

[ Parent ]
The flaw in your plan (4.00 / 1)
Unfortunately, when Mark Brewer spoke to the 4th Dist. mtg. yesterday he did say that if the Dems chose to stick with the caucus plan the Rethugs probably would too.  They fear us messing in their primary.

Aw, shucks. (4.00 / 1)
Figures.

Awww, c'mon... (4.00 / 1)
Wouldn't you be happy enough to screw up the Republican nominee in Michigan instead?  It's Y2K all over again, and look...  McCain is on the ballot!

And now back to your regularly scheduled Michigan insanity...

The rest of the story! (0.00 / 0)
This is copied from Essential Estrogen an Iowa blog:
I find it very interesting!
This was totally unnecesary to treat the Michigan voters this way!

Five individuals connected to five different campaigns have confirmed -- but only under condition of anonymity -- that the situation that developed in connection with the Michigan ballot is not at all as it appears on the surface. The campaign for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, arguably fearing a poor showing in Michigan, reached out to the others with a desire of leaving New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton as the the only candidate on the ballot. The hope was that such a move would provide one more political obstacle for the Clinton campaign to overcome in Iowa.

David... (0.00 / 0)
You're comparing putting people on the ballot to SLAVERY.

That is beyond wrong....

Room for snark (0.00 / 0)
  is always appreciated.

...And there may be different forms of involuntary servitude, not just slavery...
