Recall: Muskegon Denied, Kent Approves

by: lpackard

Mon Nov 05, 2007 at 16:09:41 PM EST

From the comments:
Mary Valentine won her clarity hearing today in Muskegon County. [Gerald Van Woerkom too.]  Robert Dean lost his in Kent County.  Next up, to the best of my knowledge, is Joel Sheltrown on Thursday in Ogemaw County.

This means if you live in Dean's district, you may see signature-gatherers outside the polling places tomorrow.

Read Democratic Edge for more from West Michigan.

If you want to help Rev. Dean (4.00 / 3)
1. Do NOT sign any recall petitions.

2. Immediately report any signature gathering. This is key - we need to know where they are at so that we can have a volunteer out there telling Grand Rapids voters the truth about this recall effort.
If you see any recall activity such as people collecting signatures, please contact Sue Levy at 616-745-2703 or the Kent Dems office at 616-406-1573 immediately (plug those numbers into your cell phones or keep them with you in your wallet/purse).

3. Join the fight and become an election monitor. We may need you to be election monitors and watch for signature gatherers at one of the 35 polling places in Rep. Dean's district on Election Day, next Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.

If you'd like to help or need more information please contact Sue Levy at 616-745-2703 or Dorothy Scott at the Kent Democrats office at 616-406-1573.

4. Make a contribution to the Friends of Robert Dean Campaign. Any amount will help fight this recall by these far-right Republicans.
Make checks out to "Friends of Robert Dean" and mail them to PO Box 6861-49516, Grand Rapids, MI 49516.

Is he having a fundraiser? (4.00 / 1)
Phil,

Please send along any information you have on fundraisers for Dean.  Does he have the capability to accept credit card donations on-line?  We all have a stake in making sure Dean, and any other Dem targets, keep their seats.  Thanks.

Drolet (1.33 / 3)
Leon will be getting petitions at rest stops across Michigan.

Bottoms up!

Black Earl, it's nice to see that your comments are equal opportunity as well as being humorously distasteful.

Sure am glad those rest stops are open though. Thanks Rep. Dean!

Not that there is anything wrong with that (4.00 / 2)
Repression leads to Craig-like ickiness.  I'm kinda surprised that the goobers embrace Drolet.

It would seem some liberals enjoy gay bashing... (4.00 / 1)
more than the "goobers" do. The restroom comments are to be expected from Gary Glenn. Enjoy the homophobic attacks, and join the Rev Fred Phelps "church"...sounds like some michiganliberal posters would be a perfect fit.

I'll stick to tax policy issues.

Leon, dear... (4.00 / 2)
You would be far more comfortable in the Democratic Party and we wouldn't try to distance ourselves from you like your Republican counterparts do.  We already agree with half of your political philosophy and once you come to terms with the other half and accept who you are (you have been living on a public paycheck for quite a while now after all, haven't you?) you would get on well here.

The recalls are a dumb idea.  They may be getting you some exposure but in the end, they'll cost taxpayers more than they'll save taxpayers and I think you must realize that.

But we still applaud your courage in voting against putting the Gary Glenn amendment on the ballot.

Drop the recalls and start focusing on the social side of the libertarian philosophy.  There is far more potential there.  As you've seen in recent weeks, even fiscally conservative Republicans who won't vote for a tax hike still have no problem voting for increased spending -a lot like the current occupant of the White House.

Don't get confused (4.00 / 2)
Just because you are gay does not make you beyond crticism.  You deserve to be bashed for trying to destroy our great State and turn us into some damn modern Grapes of Wrath society.  You hurt children, the poor and the working class.  And for as long you do that, you deserve our undying enmity.  Make absolutely no mistake about that.

You like the tax structure of Mississippi?  Go try living as a gay man in Mississippi.  You want to live in a progressive society, guess what son, you get to pay for it.  That's life.

Ah, soooo close! (0.00 / 0)
Northernlib,

The recall elections would be nearly cost free. By law, the recall election would not be a "special election", but rather would be held on a regularly scheduled election (like the May school elections or August primary). So, the cost is just the ink in putting an additional issue on an existing ballot.

Now, IgnatiusDonnely, no person - regardless of their sexual orientation- is beyond criticism. But the criticism of a few posters above is not about my evil destruction of children and puppies, but rather negative stereotypes about gay people and public sex. I personally don't care about what anyone suggests about me - as a matter of fact, I love the above comments as they expose the hypocrisy of the left. Racist attacks (ask Ward Connerly), sexist attacks and homophobic attacks are right below the surface of too many lefties - all justified because they are used against the "right". The end obviously justifies the means for too many people on both ends of the spectrum.

Gay-bashing (4.00 / 1)
I'd hate to say it, but Leon is making an excellent point here, folks. What does anyone's sexuality have to do with their stance on fiscal issues?

"Smear the queer" is wrong, no matter which side of the political spectrum uses it.

You people should be ashamed.

Can I get... (0.00 / 0)
...an AMEN in the house? I care about the fact that Leon Drolet IS a prick, not what he does with his prick.
