Huckabee Camp Pushes Democrats in Robo-Call

by: philgoblue

Sun Jan 13, 2008 at 18:59:23 PM EST

Well, to throw fire on the idea that somehow it's a good idea to switch over to the Republican ballot when we can still have an effect on our side, here comes a 527 (or PAC) for Mike Huckabee targeting Democrats to vote for the former Arkansas governor from Hope.

Here's roughly on the robocall from Common Sense Issues (my answers in parentheses):

philgoblue :: Huckabee Camp Pushes Democrats in Robo-Call
1. Do you have a favorable opinion of President George Bush? (no)
2. Are you a Republican? (no)
3. Are you a Democrat? (yes)
4. Would you be more likely to support a candidate who was endorsed by the Machinists Union, the first Republican ever to earn their endorsement because yada yada yada?  (yes)
Mike Huckabee was endorsed by the Machinists union....
5.  Do you believe that a President ought to make creating jobs a high priority?  (yes)
6. Are you pro-life (no)
7. Of the three issues which do you think is most important to you: immigration, guns or [I forgot, maybe life] (immigration)
Did you know that Romeny turned Massachusettes into a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants and that John McCain supports [something bad, I think some legislation, but I'm trying to write and give answers to the machine]?
8.  Would the fact that Mike Huckabee was endorsed by the founder of the Minutemen, American citizens protecting our southern border make you more likely to vote for him?  (no)
9.  Do you think that a President ought to have the background and values of ordinary citizens (yes).
10.  Did you know that Romney has a family fortune of like a gagillion dollars and that McCain has been in Washington DC for about forever?  Mike Huckabee was the first in his family to go to college [and a bunch of other man-of-the-people stuff].
11. Do you have a favorable opinion of Carl Levin (uh ... sorta).
Thanks, this was brought to you by Common Sense Issues at 719-306-2543, not affiated with any candidate or campaign.  Bye.

My opinion: Just Say No To Voting Republican: Vote Uncommitted in the Democratic Ballot to support John Edwards or Barack Obama, to oppose Hillary Clinton and the DLC-wing of the Party, or because you're angry the Team Hillary Michigan led by endorsers Jennifer Granholm and Debbie Dingell strongarmed the MDP into this farce of a primary.

But, I talked to a Democrat who saw Huckabee in Grand Rapids this morning and was very impressed and may just cross-over and vote for him.

Huckabee is a dangerous GE candidate (4.00 / 2)
His economic populism and regular-guy shtick would do well against Obama and especially Hillary Clinton.

A recent poll shows Huckabee beating Hillary in Ohio and tied with Obama in Ohio and beating them both in Florida.

FYI: John Edwards (our populist) beats Huckabee in both Ohio and Florida and therefore is the safest bet to win the White House.

That's not the only one. (4.00 / 1)
I got one about an hour ago touting his endorsement by the Machinist Union.

The end of the human race will be that it will eventually die of civilization.

What? (4.00 / 2)
What does "GE" candidate stand for?

[ Parent ]
I agree... (4.00 / 3)
I don't care what polls today say, but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest by a Huckabee win on Tuesday and I think he would give Democrats real problems in November because I think they've been gaming for a Romney/McCain candidate and Huckabee blows that calculus out of the water.

I agree (4.00 / 4)
Huckabee is the only R with a plausible shot at the nomination and winning the GE who also (IMHO) has a good chance of breaking W's record as the worst president in the history of the US. His superficial wit and veneer of economic populism hide a understanding of the world that is truly frightening.

I got a Huckabee Hug (robo-call) too (4.00 / 3)
Went through most of it, but hung up before they finished explaining to me why Huckabee was God.  What a pathetic ploy.

Also got a call from an elderly lady claiming to work for Zogby, who asked if I was likely to cross over in the primary.  I said no and she congratulated me for being a "good American"!  Zowee!

Walk a mile in the other guy's shoes. That way, you're a mile away from him; plus, you have his shoes.

I got one (4.00 / 1)
from Huck himself...so naya naya nah nah!!!!!

That's the third...hung up before it got ten seconds in.

I think he is using the frequent voters list, trolling for votes.

In other news of Republican courting (4.00 / 1)
Our GR John Edwards meetup was just spammed by some Libertarian from NYC pretending to be a Democrat and asking us to vote for ... you guessed it ... Ron Paul.

Here's a bit of his email:

Instead of casting a meaningless vote on the Democrat?s ticket, you can vote in the Republican primary, helping bring a ?win- win? ballot for the 2008 Presidential election by voting for Ron Paul. The war in Iraq has consistently rated the highest issue important to voters. Another issue not polled which I?m sure matters to voters is the restoration of our civil liberties.

Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate who is against the Iraq war and for the restoration of our civil liberties. All of the Democrats oppose the war in Iraq, so by voting for Ron Paul in the Republican primary you can help create a ?win-win? 2008 Presidential ballot. It will be an anti-war, pro civil liberties Democrat versus an anti-war, pro civil liberties Republican. No matter who wins the election, the war will end and our civil liberties will be restored.

Ron Paul supporters have also joined the Grand Rapids Democratic Party Meetup and spammed it with this gem:

THERE IS A WAY TO MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT:  CROSS-OVER AND VOTE FOR THE ONLY ANTI-WAR REPUBLICAN.   SEND A MESSAGE!  THEN YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT IN NOVEMBER 2008.

Even if your favorite Democrat loses, the troops will still come safely home.

WHO IS THE ONLY ANTI-WAR REPUBLICAN?

RON PAUL

Thanks for all this Jennifer!

People, just vote Uncommitted.  It keeps you off the Republican Party list for future robocalls and mailings, helps Obama and Edwards, and humiliates Granholm-Dingell who brought you this farce.

I was just robo-called for Huckabee as well... (0.00 / 0)
Full-scale push-poll; different group (or at least different series of questions) than the one Phil had, but the same basic angle. This one didn't push the machinist's union, it pushed the Minutemen founder endorsement, of all things.

Also loved the "which is more important: tax cuts or protecting the unborn?" question.

Hung up halfway through it.
