President Bush Parachutes-in Political Crony to Salvage Knollenberg's Fledgling Campaign

by: A-Hillz4ever

Reflecting his misplaced priorities, Knollenberg hires Bush/Cheney insider as Washington Chief of Staff

Lansing, MI - The Michigan Democratic Party took Congressman Joe Knollenberg to task for hiring a Bush/Cheney crony as his Chief of Staff.

Knollenberg named Craig Albright, formerly the deputy assistant for Legislative affairs to Vice President Dick Cheney and most recently the special assistant for legislative affairs to President Bush as his new Washington Chief of Staff.

"We knew President Bush and Vice President Cheney were worried about losing one of their most loyal and vulnerable 'yes men' this cycle in Joe Knollenberg, but even we were surprised they resorted to parachuting-in one of their most trusted political cronies to try to salvage Knollenberg's fledgling campaign," said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer.

"As a thank you to Knollenberg for voting with the White House 95% of the time, President Bush has sent Michigan's 9th Congressional District a very unwated gift. Come Election day, we expect Michigan's voters to reject Knollenberg and his politics-as-usual and instead cast a vote for change."

Knollenberg's previous Chief of Staff, Trent Wisecup, left Knollenberg's office last fall after having a very public and heated exchange with a local activist.

This finally proves that the NRCC is scared of Gary Peters.

Bye Bye Joe Knollenberg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol Great quote from Brewer. (4.00 / 3)
You go Mark!

To prepare for when your life flashes before your eyes, make sure it's fun to watch.

The best indication of that (4.00 / 2)
is how many times Knollenberg attacked Gary Peters after he announced last fall.  Until the primary started up, he was attacking Gary about twice a week.

Very vulnerable, good news for us!

Let's put an end to Knollenberg's "SUB-PRIME" career.

Craig has Joe on a short leash (4.00 / 3)
Ever since I confronted Joe and Trent on their policies on children's health care and the war in Iraq and Trent ended upon Countdown with Keith Olbermann, it's been pretty quiet out of the Knollenberg camp.

Gary Peters will be our new congressman from the 9th Congressional District.

Or It Will Be Nancy Skinner (4.00 / 1)
But either way the next representative for the 9th district will be a Democrat.

lol... right (2.00 / 3)
Even if she was our nominee... she would not be our next rep. She can't raise the money. She did not do it last time. Now its even harder.

Money Doesn't Win Elections, Mobilized Voters Win Elections (0.00 / 0)
Engaging voters is how you win elections.
Even if you are being outspent.
Paul Wellstone proved that.

Nancy is the more engaging, inspiring candidate. Nancy has the superior ability to get her message out and reach the people who are the key to winning the 9th district: the disengaged voters.

How to win friends and influence people (4.00 / 4)
I'm not in that district, in fact I'm in a district where we are incredibly fortunate to have even one viable candidate.....anyhow, if I were in a district with a contested primary and I supported one over the other guess what I wouldn't do....

I would not put down the other Dem and I surely wouldn't laugh at their supporters, knowing that after the primary I'd want their support for my candidate.

I think it's a thing to marvel at really.  The fact that Peters has all these big guns behind him and practically every advantage he could ask for and yet, some of his supporters on the tubes do an incredible job of alienating and being most UNgracious.  It reminds me of the team of rich kids w/fabulous equipment and uniforms playing against (and mercilessly mocking/hassling) the rag-tag kids from the poorer neighborhood.    (This of course excludes Jordan who epitomizes the concept of "class act")

4th Quarter numbers due Thursday (3.00 / 3)
Money doesn't win elections, but it sure helps.  If you notice, all the candidates who are having trouble raising money have dropped out of the presidential primary race.

If Nancy wants to stay in the race all the way to the primary in August, I predict she will have to mortgage her house, her car and anything else she owns.

Due to the fact that this is a presidential election year, TV time will have to be bought early and Nancy won't have the money to reserve the time on TV for the primary, much less the general were she to be the candidate.

She has a small, vocal group of supporters, but not enough to give her the kind of numbers needed to run an effective media campaign.  She couldn't do it last time with $422,000 in total donations.  And I'm confident her fund raising number for the 4th quarter won't break $30,000 and even it it does, it's not enough to get any substantial national support.

If she stays in the race, the national attention the 9th District has now may go away and I don't think that's what any of us want.

The DCCC will go away, and so will their money and that will hurt the Democrats' chances of winning the district.

In the interest of a Democratic victory in the 9th District, I hope that there won't be a primary.

JOE HAS GOT TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Money (4.00 / 2)
Money may not win elections but a lack of it definitely loses them. This will be a National race where the GOP will spend millions. No one should ridicule Nancy's supporters, they will be needed to take down Joe. But political reality is ugly and hard to face. Fortunately there is a great progressive candidate for Skinner supporters to fall back on when she graciously bows out. All Progs need to keep our eye on the prize. Taking out Joe and ending our long Congressional nightmare.

Knollenberg and Albright and the fight for the mighty flush (0.00 / 0)
I found this quote from Albright about Knollenberg's bill to repeal the Plumbing standards act which included low flush toilets. It's nice to see that Albright and Knollenberg had their heads in the right place way back in 1998.
Early last year, Knollenberg introduced H.R. 859, the Plumbing Standards Improvement Act of 1997, which would repeal the low-flow mandate. The bill has generated substantial public support. "The mail has just been tremendous," says Craig Albright, a legislative assistant to Knollenberg. Most complain about the performance of the new toilets, and about a government that would do such a thing to them. For example, Bill Lynn of Davenport, Iowa, said his new toilets "clog easily, and I find that I sometimes must flush them five or six times," and that "this is just another case of government intrusion, and we have plenty of that."

from Source Citation:Lieberman, Ben. "Potty politics: doesn't the federal government have anything better to worry about." Washington Monthly 30.n10 (Oct 1998): 30(2). General OneFile. Gale. Capital Area District Library. 28 Jan. 2008

What would Eleanor Roosevelt do?

The flush... (4.00 / 1)
is about the only thing Knollenberg has been concerned about for the last 16 years.

Let's put an end to Knollenberg's "SUB-PRIME" career.
