The Recall Grinch who's trying to Steal the Nicest Legislator in all of Lansing

by: LiberalLucy

Thu Jan 31, 2008 at 12:45:27 PM EST

It's a pretty appropriate title for what happened late morning in Oakland County. Recall lanaguage was approved by an Oakland County Board for State Representative Aldo Vagnozzi, a Democratic member from Farmington Hills.

Aldo, as everyone affectionately knows him, is one of the best-loved legislators in all of Lansing by Democrats and Republicans alike. But still, the Recall Grinch/aka The Pig Man/aka Leon Drolet, an ultra-conservative extremist funded with out-of-state monies, would like nothing more than to send the dear man packing, simply because he voted to save Michigan during the great Budget Crisis of 2007.

Some people truly know no shame.  Stay tuned as we bring you information on how you can help Aldo.

(Rep. Vagnozzi is pictured above greeting friends as he escorts Gov. Granholm into the State House during Tuesday's State of the State.)

These repubs. are going down this year!!!! (4.00 / 3)
We need to get rid of these Republicans in Oakland County. They have gone after two of the best legislators in the State.

The only reason I can think of is, they are jealous that their constituients like Aldo Vagnozzi and Marie Donigan so much.

Good Luck Aldo, You have the support of everyone!

I am not from Aldo's district (4.00 / 3)
but I have met him twice. What a gentleman! What a sweetheart! Bad karma will follow the people intiating the recall of this man.

What would Eleanor Roosevelt do?

is a wonderful legislator, if you are ANYWHERE near that area, get out and help him stop the recall.

Let's put an end to Knollenberg's "SUB-PRIME" career.

This is the most absurd recall (4.00 / 3)
I told my husband about this, and he looked at me like I just said the economy was good.

"WTF? Why on earth would anyone recall him? What possible reason could anyone come up with to recall Aldo?"

When I explained how there is a group of idiots who are filing recall petitions on many great Democratic party politicians simply because of party affiliation and for them agreeing to revenue increases (to fill the budget hole that has been exacerbated by the SBT repeal), I thought smoke was gonna come out of his ears.

Aldo is a wonderful person, someone who deeply cares about our community and our state. He is the most personable and involved politician I have ever met... and I've met many. He travels back and forth between Lansing and Farmington Hills on a relentless schedule, making sure to keep in touch with our community and get business done in Lansing.

This is the most ridiculous recall I've ever heard of. The people of Farmington Hills will surely rise up very loudly about this.

Can someone provide contact information about the people/organization that is behind this recall? I would like to write and call their offices to tell them what I think about their efforts to oust my State Rep. I know many of my neighbors would like to do the same.

I'm working on it (0.00 / 0)
Drop me a line...

When it is all available I'll definitely post it.

All about the money (4.00 / 4)
I think a large part of what's going on here is that the GOP is in real financial trouble as we kick off 2008, and forcing the House Dems to fund anti-recall campaigns may be their best (and only) shot to close the gap.  There is no other reason to try and recall a term-limited State Rep less than a year before the end of his term.

To put this in persective, the campaign finance reports filed by the caucuses today show that the House Dems have approx. $750,000 on hand, while the House GOP has just $20,000.  How do you close a $730,000 gap without ideas and while fighting a political headwind?  Your only chance is to force the other side to spend heavily before the real election race even begins.  The GOP doesn't have anything to lose - any efforts made in favor of a recall will be funded by out-of-state interests anyway - and every dollar the Dems put up against this nonsense is one dollar less they have to defend their majority come November.  It's the worst form of politics, and shows just how desparate the House Republican leadership has become.

a very insightful comment, danscripps. (4.00 / 2)
I hadn't thought of it that way.

What a nasty, lothesome strategy by people who supposedly care about democracy.

You're so right (4.00 / 3)
Everyone loves Aldo.  This is the most ridiculous recall I've ever head of, too.  He's term limited in November -- what's the point?  I seriously don't think people in his district will vote him out, but even getting this on the ballot is an absolute travesty.  Hopefully they won't even get enough signatures for it to get that far.
