HD105: And then there were three

by: Eric B.

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 23:51:54 PM EDT

You know, the first impression I got from this photo of Dennis Lennox was that the glasses were Photoshopped onto his face.  The second impression I got was that maybe the frames were genuine but that maybe there were no lenses.  The third impression was that maybe he should shut his mouth, so as not to look so stupid.

But, that deer caught in the headlights is indeed our friend Dennis Lennox, formerly of Central Michigan University and now focused on winning the Republican nomination to represent Michigan's 105th District in the State Legislature, taking over for Kevin Elsenheimer, who'se chosen not to seek a third term so he can run for a seat on the appeals court.

The deer in the headlights routine might not be so accidental.  There are now three Republicans running for the 105th seat, a Charlevoix-area business owner named Tim Boyko and, today, the chairman of the Otsego County board of commissioners, Ken Glasser.  There is also one Democrat running.

Ken Glasser would like you to meet 1984:

“We need to stabilize the business environment by reducing excessive regulations and tax burdens so that small businesses can expand and provide jobs,” Glasser said. “Government needs to be trimmed back in these difficult times. It’s time to understand that government doesn’t have all the answers. Government should be more responsive to its citizen owners.”

Loud groans.  Haven't we been trying this for, like, the last decade and a half to no benefit?  Yes we have.

Eric B. :: HD105: And then there were three
This is from the Democrat, Connie Saltonstall:

“I think we should see what we can do. If we can’t save the plant, we need to at least help these people with retraining for a new job and I think we have to be actively recruiting new businesses to come here,” she said. “You don’t sit at a desk and say you want someone to take a job, you recruit them. You put an ad in the paper, you make it known you need someone to come to you.”

Saltonstall also cited her work in trying to secure funding for Boyne City-Charlevoix Road.

“Kevin Elsenheimer two years ago said that maybe he could work on getting the Charlevoix-Boyne City Road to be an extension of M-75,” she said. “And now two years later he was helpful to arrange a meeting for MDOT to tell us that, no, that is not going to happen.”

She added, “We need people in the legislature who are willing to put aside partisan politics and create solutions, and that’s what I want to do.”

Saltonstall feels providing universal health care will also aid the economy by reducing the burden on business owners, and she also wants to work toward protecting Michigan’s land and water to maintain a healthy environment for residents and tourists.

“I think Kevin is a nice person. He’s smart, he’s a good attorney, but I think I can offer a greater involvement in our northern Michigan issues than we’ve seen,” she added.

By "the plant," she was referring to a Mancelona plant that is closing and the 300 jobs eliminated as a result.  But, Jesus, doesn't this sound like someone who belongs in the state Legislature?

Update! ... This, according to this article, is her platform:

• Platform: Universal health care; renewable energy; job creation; environmental protection

Oh my.

Boyko and Sovereign Deed (4.00 / 1)
It looks like Boyko backed away from his opposition of Sovereign Deed. In the fall of 2007,  he was a member of the group "We Don't Need Sovereign Deed". But this is his position in January:
Boyko's contrary view

Norwood supervisor Tim Boyko, one of the "We Don't Need Sovereign Deed" group, acknowledged that misinformation compounded by a distrust of privatization of the civil defense industry, had apparently skewed the group's perception, and possibly that of the public, of what the Sovereign Deed proposal was all about.

"Perhaps if we had taken the approach of sitting down with the state and county officials, and even with Sovereign Deed itself, and discussed our apprehensions with them, we might have been further ahead at this point," he said.

Boyko agreed that untruths, if not challenged, often become accepted as fact. He noted that the group had forwarded pre-publication drafts of their treatises on the subject to Emmet County and Sovereign Deed officials, and to the media, without much response.

The danger, he said, is that lack of response to allegations could be taken as acknowledging their truth, though this could be far from the case.

from Petoskey News Sounds like weasel words to me.
The Petoskey News in early Feb printed this editorial that questions about Moore and Sovereign Deed must be answered.
Did Boyko retreat as Michigan Messenger was under fire? Anyone have any updates on where he stands now?

What would Eleanor Roosevelt do?

Sounds like somebody got to him (4.00 / 1)
Wonder what Boyko's campaign contributions look like?

Hmm.

Too bad our reporting isn't timely and as transparent as it should be, rather like our state's approval process for tax abatements.

.... Lennox is making the rest of us look bad...

I hear ya, brother man (4.00 / 1)
On the other hand, the world deserves to know the sacrifice made by the rest of us Chippewas in terms of guilt-by-association diminished diploma value so that everyone else could have what is shaping up to be a most entertaining primary race up North.

What was going through Dennis's head when that picture was taken (4.00 / 1)
Oops pooped em

I do hate the ad hominem attacks.... (0.00 / 0)
or maybe I should say "ad capillus" attacks, but Dennis Lennox's "sense of style" is such a big part of who he is that one cannot separate the man from the message.

That having been said - that is a really bad picture.

But at least he combed his hair.

The 105th is a beauty pageant! (4.00 / 1)
Don't forget John Ramsey.

Man, this is great! A young, petulant wacko vs. JonBonet Ramsey's dad.

Do we have a real candidate? We could actually take it with the Goopers' cast of characters...

Wow that picture will be following him for what little career he will have in politics.

I saw that thing, and said, "There's no way that's real." (0.00 / 0)
But, it is, and I think that if and when John Ramsey throws his hat into the ring, we're going to get some much needed yuks as the Republican candidates for the 105th spill out of the clown car and all over northern Michigan.

That hair style would have really made the picture.

Dennix Lennox is another racist YAF member (0.00 / 0)
I've been following this Dennox Lennox character while he's been on his immature quest to get Gary Peters fired.

I have to say, I couldn't be any more unimpressed by this kid. He's another silver-spoon right-winger who turns to politics because he can't do anything else. I bet he hasn't put in a day's worth of real work in his life. There is no way he's going to know what's really good for Michigan.

Even worse, he's affiliated with that crazy kid at Michigan State, Kyle Bristow. Both of them are members of Young Americans for Freedom chapters. Bristow went so far as to get his chapter named a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

I was on some sites that were discussing Lennox and came across this picture. Here's Dennis Lennox at some fancy hotel, making fun of a black shoe shiner.

Take a look at this:

This kid disgusts me!
