Battle of the Bloggers on 'Off the Record'

by: LiberalLucy

Fri Apr 25, 2008 at 15:25:57 PM EDT

The fur flies in the third Blogger's Edition of WKAR's Off the Record, with Senior Capitol Correspondent, Tim 'The Skoob' Skubick.

While the main topic discussed is the McCain v. Clinton/Obama race, the recalls of Speaker Andy Dillon and the 2010 gubernatorial race are also talked about. Things get quite heated between our own Emptywheel (Marcy Wheeler), Nick DeLeuuw of RightMichigan.com and Emily Zanotti of AmericanPrincessBlog.com and myself.

You can watch online, download the pod cast, or check their website and figure out when it will be airing on TV in part of the state.

you all are too young and inexperienced (2.00 / 3)
You cannot know what you think you know until you are old enough to realize that which you never knew at all.

Bloggers are OK. But all talking at the same time, shrillry harping over one another does nothing to endear you to the masses like me, 55 years old.

We don't read blogs, don't care about blogs and it is amusing to watch your passion. You will find that your dreams will be dashed again and again in politics.

Skubick came right and said it: Clinton will steal this nomination via the super delegates like that pig Joel Ferguson.

Your feelings will be hurt but welcome to big league politics.

And you do not have to have a constant sttream running from your mouth and I think I mean the Wheeler woman. Sheesh, breathe and let some one else talk every now and then.

Liberal Lucy is starting to get it. Better job Lucy. For christ's sake, even Nick could stay shut up for the most part.

You will not out talk Obama to the White House. I support him but he has to grow some balls and attack this Clinton woman. Wait till you see the Reverend Wright tonight and wonder why he does not resemble the sound bite at all. That is because the Clintonista's pared it out and ran with it. The Clinton death machine will stop at nothing. And I voted twice for Bubba. Would do it again but now my point.

If Clinton steals this thing at the super delegate level there are more people who will sit out November or even cross over. This woman turns people off. Dream on if you think she will win but right now, my family and others will pass if she is allowed to steal the nomination. Sorry, I am not voting for a thief, liar and overall scoundrel. The Clinton's are not the Clinton's of the nineties. They are not getting my vote. And I also think the question that was posed to Chelsea Clinton is my business and the little snot should have answered it or been more respectful. Her ass has been on the public food service system for her entire life so answer any question you get or get out of the way. How your mother reacted to Bubba's BJ is of interest to people and a valid question and my business.

God this woman with the glasses on is shrill. Somebody get me away from the blackboard. I feel the sound of fingernails on chalkboard.

Play this again in twenty yeats and see how naive all four of you look. It is called dampness behind the ears.

I can't stand it anymore, back to the Tiger v Angels game.

No more blogger shows. Please Timmy??????????

Doxie dear, I thought you were being way too critical until I watched the program.  While I obviously disagree with you about Hillary and Chelsea, everything else you said above was on the money.  Love him or hate him, Skubik knows what he's talking about.  And while I detest Nick's idiotic partisanship, he did the best job out of all the bloggers.  Seeing him for the first time, it's refreshing to know he's barely halfway through puberty.  Hopefully, like most self-identified Republican teens, he'll grow out of it and find himself a nice liberal girlfriend or boyfriend.

Actually (4.00 / 2)
Nick is the 2nd oldest of all the bloggers, and I promise I'm much older than I actually look. I guess it will come in handy when I'm staring at the south end of 40-50, but I'm really starting to get tired of people asking me when I'm going to graduate high school, especially when I'm looking forward to my high school reunion this summer. :-)

Geez.... (4.00 / 3)
Drank your hateorade lately?  They did a great job.  You want to see young, put me on there.  I would've told the skinny girl in the black to eat something and I would've told Nick to fire his dentist!

Compare the discussion of real issues they did with the crap you see on the cable news channels.  I'll take the blogger roundtable over that crap any day of the week!

Chris Matthews is older than dirt, but I find Marcy and Julielynn to be much more wiser than that old fart.

Can't win them all! (4.00 / 4)
Out of the three times I was on the show, this was by far the most heated. I was surprised how far things went, but first of politics is that you can't make everyone happy. Glad to see we didn't fail on that. :-)

As far as the issues, I'm not going to defend anything or anyone, but bloggers were brought on for their analysis of the situation through the Internet. When it comes to Obama v. Clinton, Obama's the darling of the Internet, whether it's here or on DailyKos.

As far as your comment about me - thank you, I think. :-)

You are welcome Julielyne! Yes I meant it as a compliment (3.00 / 4)
Lucy you really did a good job and I should have thrown kudo's your way. You have learned how to listen and wait while on OTR. Timmy will throw you a bone. You were way above the other two women with Nick, I am sorry to say, holding his own by use of the less is more approach.

All you had to do is watch the the other two women blather and blither and answer when Tim shot you a question. I feel Nick definitely expected this and displayed good technique. The two women, NOT Liberal Lucy, just jammered back and forth until I had to turn the thing off.

I apologize to the Michigan Liberal Democrat community for being so crass and yes, rude. I have no excuse. I was doing the post tongue in cheek and all of the guests have my respect for having the guts to go on the OTR show. Just to be asked to be on the show is quite an achievment. You were all impressive and I officially declare my post worthless and I would give you all 4.0's for appearing.

The bright lights and the heat, really the temprature fareneheit, will change you when they come on. I was trying to offer as harsh a critique as I could conjure up to illustrate what the pressure is like.

My commentary about the Clinton/Obama situation stands. I am an obvious Obama supporter and will not stand for dirty deeds. And it is starting to smell like mackeral. I cannot support a "stolen" nomination. I upchuck each time I hear Mrs. Clinton state recently, "I now have won more votes than my opponent". BS! There has been no election in Michigan, period. There are no votes and no delegates out of Michigan at all.

I have not missed an election since 1972. I am torn over what to do. I have always followed the Democratic party but I do no support the Clinton method. I just saw Bill Clinton on TV driveling some convoluted rationalization that Barack is "Playing the Race Card"??????? Unh? A new low for even the Clinton's, the favorite White House Bed and Breakfast couple since 1992.

I will not crossover but my point is that Mrs. Clinton has to win this thing fair and square or older voters like me will not vote for her. There are a lot of voters sick of the Clinton's dubious past. If Mrs. Clinton wins the nomination fair and square, OK, I might consider her. But the point is she cannot win it fair and square so she is going to hurt the party. She is and she will do more damage if she does not just get out. It is Baracks nomination.

Again, I apologize to all the particpants on the OTR show. I admit to being an A$$ in my parent post.

It's understandable (4.00 / 1)
and thank you for the compliment.

I've always thought that politics is a love or hate kind of thing. I love it because I see the potential for all the good that it holds, but at times I hate it for the games that often must be played to achieve any result at all. To call it frustrating is an understatement.

Marcy and I have talked post-show and we even agree that it got out of hand, but if anything, I think it's representative all of the frustration and anger that most of us here in MI are feeling over this entire primary/convention debacle. That's not to mention the additional stress of seeing two of our own (Clinton/Obama) throw barbs and millions at each other on what's turning out to be a presidential Survivor Island.

That being said, we must keep our eye on the real goal, which is taking down John McCain in November. We simply cannot afford another 4 years of Bush 3.0.

But back to you Doxie, and no offense taken. It's easy and I'm sure we're all guilty at one point or another (including myself) of shooting off an angry post or comment when perhaps we should have paused and reflected before doing so.  Mistakes are going to happen, we're all human, but the important part is that we learn from it and move on.

Thanks for coming back and apologizing. I hope we see each other again soon!

Wouldn't it be great (4.00 / 1)
if we could delete some of our own comments? I've been there too doxie. This was one of the best apologies I've seen. And I'm sorry for the harsh reply.

Amused by their passion Doxie? (4.00 / 5)
I'm so sorry you feel that way. I find their passion very inspiring. As someone in your age category I think you might want to try getting off the high and mighty pedestal that you seem to be on. You should set your know it all attitude aside and see what you can learn from someone younger than you rather than think your more advanced age gives you some kind of an automatic advantage over those who have not been around as long as us. Some of the dumbest people I know are my(our)age or older(like George W. Bush).

I like the passion I am seing in members protecting fellow members (3.50 / 6)
For the record, I only know of Julielynn and Nick. I have never viewed Marcy. The fourth woman's name escapes me and I think that is a good thing.

Marcy, I was wrong, rude and stupid. I apologize to you. I was unfair and you deserve much better.

Julielynn you have my utmost respect but I think you detected that in my rant.

I will now go away again. This election is very important to me and I do not like how the MDP has handled it. I do not like the super delegate nonsense.

I canvassed door to door in the last two election cycles. The last election November 6,2006, it poured rain all day long. I went door to door for 10 hours in pursuit of Democrat votes. While canvassing, a car pulled up and out came Justice Michael Cavanaugh of the Michigan Supreme Court. He wanted to thank my wife and I for doing, "God's Work" in his words. We were doing a route in East Lansing and the weather was awful.

My point is that I belong on this blog as much as another and I have done my footwork and have passion in my politics.

I also thought I was going to get ripped far worse than I did so again you prove to me what a passionate and caring community that you are.

I am now retiring back to HBO, Showtime, Red Wings, Pistons and the tigers in sort of that order. Then politics.

Wear the day like a lose garment. Lighten up and laugh at yourself. I especially enjoyed Brainwraps commentary. Too funny of me to put "we don't read blogs or care about blogs" on a blog. Oops!

Oh well, don't get too twisted up or you will develop wrinkles. Smile :) for god's sake once in awhile. Listen to 1320 AM Lansing and Ebling and yo in the afternoon's on 1320 AM lansing.

Some of your points are valid... (4.00 / 6)
...but you lost your credibility right off the bat with this comment:

"We don't read blogs, don't care about blogs."

...and yet here you are, reading a blog and caring about a blog (otherwise you wouldn't be writing a lengthy comment on this one).

"You will find that your dreams will be dashed again and again in politics."

I suspect you're correct, but what a lovely thing to say--crush the hopes of the younger generation. Everything sucks, you can't do anything about it, don't bother to try.

For the record, "this Wheeler woman" happens to have written the definitive backstory on the outing of Valerie Plame, "Anatomy of Deceit". She was also one of the only bloggers with press credentials to live-blog the Scooter Libby trial. Read More About It®: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M...

Hardly a "wet behind the ears, you-kids-get-off-my-lawn" profile. The same can be said about Julielyn, who has a bevy of impressive "grown-up" accomplishments of her own. I don't know much about the right-wing panelists, but presume that they have resumes of their own to tout.

Touche (3.20 / 5)
Everything you wrote I agree with.

I was wrong about almost everything.

It is nice to see th community stand up for its members.

I still am unhappy with the Barack situation.

[ Parent ]
Fair enough. We're good :) (4.00 / 2)
I shot my mouth off and got overly-cranky in a post just a couple of days ago, so I can understand the temptation--and I respect your ability to recognize it and try to make amends.

All is well.

(except that yes, I'm unhappy with the Obama/Clinton situation as well--see my other posts from today)

On the record... (4.00 / 3)
I watched the show and while the crew was a bit rowdy I thought that the opinions they expressed, and the way they expressed them were no different than more experienced "talking heads".  Each of the speakers held their talking points.  It was an effort to make Scooby-Doo look a little more hip.

Being on the left side of the bias I followed Lucy and Marcy's logic and found the right side a little lacking.  Thank goodness we are all in need of improvement.  Just wishing we could pull back the window shades and see the future, be done with this mess!

On a personal note, I experienced Marcy's passion for politics over four years ago in Iowa.  She has earned her "stripes" and what might sound to you like "nails on the black board" is well thought out concern for our democracy.

Ouch. I know you meant that as a compliment... (4.00 / 3)
...but this isn't exactly something to crow about:

I thought that the opinions they expressed, and the way they expressed them were no different than more experienced "talking heads".

Yikes. Marcy, Julielyn, PLEASE don't start emulating Chris Matthews or Joe Scarborough! ;)

I guess I am just tired of it.... (4.00 / 1)
It all is just alot of chatter in my head.  Maybe I watch to much of it, need more of the food network or the Tigers off to a better start.

I refered to it months ago, the Michigan primary as "Putin style" elections. Now to repeat Stalin's name twice makes me wonder who is the history major.

Plus our Governor, her speaking for democratic voters at the DNC is making me want to burn my MDP card at the next state central meeting.  Just make it go away so we can get working on November.
