Hillary's Speech - Open Thread - Denver08

by: rich

Tue Aug 26, 2008 at 23:05:52 PM EDT

Here are my thoughts and lines that stick with me as the speech goes on. Feel free to add yours in the comments. Great speech so far.

--

Nice intro from Chelsea Clinton.

We don’t have an advanced copy of the speech available, like we did for Michelle Obama.

The cheers are long and loud for Hillary as she takes the podium.

The bit about being proud mother, Senator, American, and supporter of Barack Obama is smooth.

“The time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose.”

“We are on the same team. None of us can afford to sit on the sidelines.”

“No way No how No McCain”

rich :: Hillary's Speech - Open Thread - Denver08

“Barack Obama is my cand and he must be our pres.”

America’s greatness is bound up in the lives of the American people.

“You made me laugh, and yes, you even made me cry.” - Good little jab of humor.

Recounts numerous diverse supporters....

“sisterhood of the traveling pant suits” - very funny

“money borrowed from the Chinese to buy oil from the suadis”

Nice line about running on behalf of the people who are invisible to the government.

“I want you to ask yourselves were you in this campaign just for me, or in it for...” all of her supporters that she named. Very sharp, smart, effective.

“There are no limits to what is possible in America.”

“We need to elect Barack Obama.”

She says he will have a wonderful partner in Michelle Obama who will be a great first lady. Then she compliments Biden.

Then she takes some digs about Sen. McCain, “he thinks it’s okay when women don’t earn equal pay for equal work.”

She says it’s fitting that Preisdent Bush and John McCain will be in the “Twin Cities next week, because these days they’re awfully hard to tell apart.”

"Keep going!"

Twin Cities (4.00 / 5)
"No wonder McCain and Bush are going to be in the Twin Cities next week. These days, you can't tell them apart!"

Hillary is the most eloquent, most charasmatic, most dynamic woman in the Democratic party!

Nothing is easier than solving a problem on the back of the poor. People who don't have lobbyists or clout.

Here's the video of that great line.

Hillary - jab jab uppercut! (4.00 / 4)
Hillary would make a great surrogate attacker for the Obama campaign. She delivers lines like this wonderfully, and she's already known for going on the offensive. She can be the one always taking McCain down, while Obama can appear to remain above the fray.

It also occurred to me as I was watching clips of the speech I couldn't manage to stay awake for last night that Hillary might take a similar trajectory as Ted Kennedy. On the night of his speech a commentator for NPR noted that once it became obvious that Kennedy was not going to be able to run for president, he directed his energies to becoming the greatest senator in recent history (perhaps all history). I don't think that this was Hillary's last chance to run for president, but if she decides it was, she has the talents to overtake even Ted's legacy.

Fantastic (4.00 / 5)
It was a fantastic, rousing speech. One of the most animated speeches I've seen her give. I'd say it's a home run.

All in all an awesome speech. (4.00 / 4)
I'm glad someone finally took some potshots at McCain. I wish they would've given Chelsea a chance to actually say something other than "My mom, my hero."

The Twin Cities joke was the funniest thing I've heard on TV in weeks.

Great speech (4.00 / 4)
now maybe the msm will stop this puma bs.

"Kill the headlights and put it in neutral..."

Legs (4.00 / 4)
I think that speech will cut the legs out of from under that PUMA movement that's been largely kept alive by the MSM (they like conflict).

You Go Scorpio!! (4.00 / 3)
I really like this version of Hillary Clinton.  Where has she been hiding?  We share the same astrological sign - Scorpio - and it takes one to know one.  For the first time in a long time, I felt a real sense of connection to Hillary Clinton during her speech.  Yes, she was eloquent, charasmatic, dynamic, powerful, and "present" during this speech.  In other words, she kicked-ass and looked GOOD doing it!
