Voter caging is too mild a term to use for this tactic.
The Macomb GOP’s plans are another indication of how John McCain’s campaign stands to benefit from the burgeoning number of foreclosures in the state. McCain’s regional headquarters are housed in the office building of foreclosure specialists Trott & Trott). The firm’s founder, David A. Trott, has given at least $23,000 to McCain’s campaign and raised between $100,000 and $250,000 for the Republican nominee.
The Macomb County party’s plans to challenge voters who have defaulted on their house payments is likely to disproportionately affect African Americans who are overwhelmingly Democratic voters. More than 60 percent of all sub-prime loans — the most likely kind of loan to go into default — were made to African Americans in Michigan, according to a report issued last year by the state’s Department of Labor and Economic Growth.
Detroit is one of the worst hit housing markets in the country. And I'm willing to bet that the same is true for many of it's surrounding counties.
This is one of the most disgusting things I have ever heard in my life. I wonder how many of those who will be caught up in this blatant attack on voting rights are Republicans that would be crossing over this election year? We already know that the target in this will be minorities, but judging from the shear numbers of forclosure nationwide, I see this as an expanded effort to make possible Republican defectors a secondary target.
Just another tool to use in recruting Republicans to our side.
It's not only inner city minorities that are losing their homes, it's white middle class homeowners who are new to the strugle.
This needs to be addressed forcfully and repeatedly. If we can't stop it from happening, at least we can expose it to the fence sitters.
This is, as much as I regret having to point this out, a powerful recruting tool thatshould be used without mercy!
Read more and send it to your republican friends, family, and co-workers.
