Stopping at Albion College to reach out to students and alums on homecoming day, support for both Mark Schauer and Barack Obama was overwhelming. After some confusion, a GPS malfunction, one and a half hours later, we rolled into Jackson CC. Continuing our efforts to reach out to students, we continued to see huge support for Democrats from the top to the bottom of the ballot. We were joined by Fran Brennan from the Justice Caucus, who has been helping us to get the word out about Judge Hathaway and our not so favorite Chief Justice.
After getting joined by our mascot, Annie, we packed up and hit the streets of Adrian canvassing for the 7th District’s next Congressman. Support was much stronger than anticipated in a one time T-Wal stronghold. A favorite thought from one gentleman “I know Tim Walberg, and wouldn’t vote for him for dog catcher.” Sunday brought us to Kalamazoo College for a early morning barbecue and registration drive. Heading back to the 7th CD, the Make It Happen Bus made it to Cereal City to frost the flake sitting in Congress currently. Ok, enough poor attempts at humor.
Now I sit at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor handing out “bottoms up for Barack” cups and registering voters with the funky MFCD crew. The songs of Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen seem to be working well to attract students, but then again, maybe it is just the lure of free bagels. In any event, our efforts at registration here have been great, with a huge turnout of supporters, and new voters. On our way to Grand Valley State University shortly, then up to the Leelanau Penninula. Keep your eyes out for some more updates on here, as well as our new website, www.michigancollegedems.com for live photo updates and our complete schedule so that we can see you out and about! |
