More great news for the Peters campaign! - promoted by Eric B.)

Cross-posted from DailyKos

For the past several weeks I wrote diaries [on Daily Kos] imploring Kossacks to help us in the Michigan 9th to raise some funds for Gary Peters' campaign against GOP incumbent, Joe Knollenberg, through the fundraising contest held by People for the American Way's Voters' Alliance Progressive Champions campaign. To say that these diaries seemingly fell on blind eyes is an understatement. I mean, do you guys have any idea how lonely it feels to be the only one to comment in one's own diary? Nonetheless, I received the following email today, and it was quite gratifying:

Mike in MI :: Thanks from the 9th
Thank you so much for participating in the People For the American Way Voters Alliance Progressive Champions contest. We wanted you to be among the first to know the results:

*In first place, we have Progressive Champion Gary Peters taking on Republican incumbent Joe Knollenberg for the MI-09 seat. Congrats to Gary who raised $33,857.

*In second place, with the greatest number of donors is Progressive Champion Victoria Wulsin, who is taking on Republican incumbent Jean Schmidt for the OH-02 seat.

*And in third place, with the next greatest number of donors is Progressive Champion Dennis Shulman, who is taking on Republican E. Scott Garrett in the race for the NJ-05 seat.

Collectively you helped raise more than $125,000 for all 24 of the Voters Alliance Progressive champions. But just because the contest has ended doesn't mean the fundraising should stop. The Voters Alliance is keeping the Progressive Champions page up on Act Blue - keep on giving until the election and tell your friends!

Thanks for supporting an exceptional group of principled progressive leaders who will bring their passion, energy, and smarts to the next Congress!

And a special thanks to the DCCC "Red to Blue" campaign and to Jared Polis (the next Congressman from Colorado's 2nd District) for their contributions to the match!!

Winning in November is just the beginning. To stay informed about People For the American Way's efforts to fight the right wing and promote progressive values, please visit our site to activate your free membership. The url in case you need it is: http://site.pfaw.org/activate

Thanks so much to those whom I know helped with a donation: Dump Terry McAuliffe, Granny Doc, Olds 88, and bluestatedem84, and thanks, too, to those of you who chipped in but didn't leave word to that effect. We really appreciate it, and we really appreciate the extra $4000 that will now come into the campaign. [And thanks to anyone here at Michigan Liberal who noticed this and contributed.] --Mike

Good Omen for Gary... (0.00 / 0)
Guess this is an example of that "unknown" "out-of-state" money Ol' Joe Knollenberg was grousing about at the debate last night*.

Bitter much, Joe? Mad that your PAC donors and real estate developer friends are being out-raised by progressives around the country kicking in $25 or $50 at a time?

Suck it up. National attention in Michigan Congressional races is a GOOD thing. Something not seen here since 2002.

* A Debate Gary won, by the way... (4.00 / 1)
Gary looked and acted more like a Congressman than Knollenberg -- calm and collected, providing reasonable responses. Knollenberg was harsher, and spent more time touting his past accomplishments as part of the old GOP majority than looking ahead.

The Green candidate was entertaining, and Jack Kevorkian was, well, kinda sad. The moderator (Chuck Stokes) and the panel were very gentle with him, and in person he looks closer to 90 than his actual age.

GOTV has also tried to raise money for Peters on (4.00 / 2)
dkos with the same results so I hope you don't feel too bad.  I gave Peters money when GOTV did his diary.  OpenLeft is fundraising for "better Democrats" and compared to dkos, even they appear to be having a hard time of it.  Maybe I'm just use to the mighty roar of the dailykos cash drawer as it goes ka-ching.

Peters Progressive Champ (4.00 / 2)
I did not post when I read the plea for giving money but instead went to the site and contributed to BOTH Peters & Mark Schauer.  Then for good measure I went and dropped off a check to Bob Alexander.  Just because we don't post a comment doesn't mean we don't take action.
