Election Day Coffee Talk

by: JPowers155

Tue Nov 04, 2008 at 07:41:23 AM EST

Good morning and welcome to the day that will (hopefully) change the world. I know that almost every person who reads MichLib will vote today so instead of me telling you to GOTV, I'm going to say thanks. Thanks for voting. Thanks for reading.

National Political News

  • Oakland Dem Politics: Obama's Final Rally Speech. Fired up? Ready to go!
  • BFM: Dixville Notch Turns Blue. If you believe the omens, this nation is going for Obama.
  • DailyKos: My Predictions for 2008. The Great Orange Satan speaks and he's calling Michigan as +16 for Obama. Thoughts?
  • SuperSpade On the Eve of Change.  "We deserve the leadership we work for."  Best line of this campaign season.
Michigan Political News
  • GayPolitics: Garnet Lewis Subject of Anti-Gay Attack Ad. It's more than anti-gay, it's the homophobic rantings of hate mongers. Fortunately, we have the Gay Political Mafia on the side of the righteous. Keep the faith.
  • State News: Party Politics Not a Factor for Partisan MSU Trustees. Well if Joel Ferguson says it's true, then it must be.
  • Vote No on Joe: Get Out and Vote for Gary Peters. One voice really does matter. Bruce? Thank you for your hard work in helping rid Michigan of Joe K. Here's hoping...
  • WMR: Vote for Change - - Vote for the Democratic Slate. I couldn't have said it better myself.
Things That Amuse Me
  • Serious Eats: Election Night Party Food. What are you having at your Election Night Party?

Today's my last Coffee Talk. It's been a heck of a ride. So just let me say this just one last time...

Go forth. Do good. Talk amongst yourselves in the comments.

Your last Coffee Talk??? Oh, noes!!!! (4.00 / 2)
Hopefully you will still be posting here at MichLib!

Voting report (4.00 / 2)
Saginaw Township 13:

Arrived early (good thing) thanks to my wife. By the time the doors opened, there were about 200 people standing in line.

When I left, about another 50 had arrived with more driving up. The church parking lot was full.

Straw poll: The first six voters were for Obama.

Lansing Ward 4, precinct 2 (4.00 / 3)
There were about 50-75 people already in line when the polls opened this morning at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lansing 4-2, a heavily Dem urban precinct. I arrived at 6:40 and was #25 in line.

Yes We Can!

"Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never." - Winston S. Churchill

45 minute wait at my polling place. (4.00 / 2)
Also, my kick ass motivational speech for today:

http://www.bloggingformichigan...

Let's start banging on Terry Lynn Land's head (4.00 / 2)
Ridiculous long lines, broken machines EVERYWHERE, disorganization, jammed help lines.

TERRY LYNN LAND, EPIC FAIL.  The Governor's race will already be an uphill battle, let's start working for change for the better in Michigan TODAY.  Land must go, Cox must go, enough!!

Electoral reform our first priority (4.00 / 3)
in the new legislative session.

We should have:

1) Early voting (2 weeks?)
2) No excuse absentee voting
3) Same day voter registration

at the very least...

Michelle McManus (4.00 / 3)
Talk to Sen. McManus (R-Big Tuna). She's the chair of the Senate Campaign and Election Oversight Committee. There are bills which have passed that House that would do all of those sensible things, but they've been sitting in her committee for some time now.

Dare we ask (4.00 / 1)
the origin of the Big Tuna nickname? Is it just that she's a cold fish? Or that she has the IQ of a fish? Or that she tastes good on rye bread with mayonnaise?

OK, I'm shutting up now. I still have to drag myself out to go vote.

Maybe it's an Office thing? (4.00 / 1)

Maybe... (4.00 / 1)
Big Walleye would be more accurate, thanks to this junket she took.

And this diary has a list of the sensible voting bills that McManus has effectively killed in committee.
