| Before we roll into the topic, let's first point you to this in the online editorial section for The Oakland Press. It's a sign of the times, I think, that rather than original editorial content, the paper farmed out its editorial section to a Mackinac Center infomercial -- the person asking the questions is from the Center, and the person she's asking the questions of is ... ta-da affiliated with the Mackinac Center (it's that Daddow fellow the News frequently cites, and whom Magic Frank once referred to as "apolitical"). It's the kind of thing that, if concerning a political election, would include the question, "Your campaign has been described as an unstoppable juggernaut ... why do people love you so much?" Meanwhile, up the road in Livingston County, fear and doom from another critter from the Mackinac Center. "The single most important element in reform — long-lasting, durable economic and financial reform — for this state, so that we can become a magnet for attraction of business and jobs — is to make it a right-to-work (state)," said Littmann in a recent interview posted on the Mackinac Center's Web site. "A free-to-choose labor state. Without that, there's no reason to be in Michigan. Absolutely no comparative advantages."
It's an easy, one-size-fits-all approach to running the state the Mackinac Center has. When things are going well, it's time to cut taxes, spending and restrict the rights of workers. When things are going poorly, you must cut taxes, spending and restrict the rights of workers or the sun will fall from its orbits, the oceans will boil, and Keeping up with the Kardashians will become the most entertaining show on Tee Vee. |
