Important vote tomorrow on American Clean Energy and Security Act -- CALL PETERS' OFFICE

by: SharonRB

Thu Jun 25, 2009 at 21:04:32 PM EDT

(Meanwhile, in DC... - promoted by Eric B.)

The text below is part of an e-mail I received from Ashley Dowser, who is now working for the Alliance for Climate Protection (she formerly was with the Obama campaign in Birmingham). I am appalled that Gary Peters would even consider voting against this bill. It should be a no brainer. Please call his office and let him know how important this bill is to our future and the future of the world.
SharonRB :: Important vote tomorrow on American Clean Energy and Security Act -- CALL PETERS' OFFICE
The House is scheduled to vote TOMORROW on the American Clean Energy and Security Act, the most important clean energy and climate legislation of our lives, and Peters is still on the fence.  He needs to hear from you!

Thanks to a blatant distortion campaign by Big Coal and Big Oil to scare Congress from taking action, Peters is hearing plenty from our opponents.   We can't let the corporate interests fighting to keep the status quo scare us into sticking to rising fuel costs, more job losses and a continued dependence on foreign oil.  They know this vote will be close. But, what the special interests have in money and rhetoric, we have in facts and supporters like you.

Call Gary Peters and tell him to vote for the American Clean Energy and Security Act, because it will create jobs, unleash our clean energy future, free us from foreign oil, and cut America's global warming pollution.  We elected him for a reason-so he could cast a vote for change from the destructive policies of the past.  Now is the time to vote "YES" for change!

I spoke to Kevin Hrit, but he said he couldn't say how Congressman Peters was going to vote.  I hope he votes in favor of this bill.

Gary is voting YES (0.00 / 0)
Just got a call from Gary Peters' office and was informed Congressman Peters would be voting for the ACES Bill.

Integrity matters (0.00 / 0)
There has been an awful lot of Big Coal $$ spent throwing lies and mud at this bill. Peter deserves praise for standing up against the money interests and voting for a better future for the country. He has certainly been deluged with negative attacks from the Repubs in the blogging sphere.
The bottom line is that Knollenberg would not have supported the bill. This is the change that the 9th District voted for.
Now if we can just keep Big Coal from weakening the bill as it goes thru the Senate and Conference Committee.

Just checked the roll call--he voted YES, yay! (4.00 / 1)
To be honest, there were some legitimate concerns about the final version of the bill, so I can understand Peters being a bit hesitant, but ultimately, it's still a hell of a lot better than nothing, so I'm also glad that he came around.

On the other hand, the Senate is where Good Legislation Goes to DieĀ®, so let's cross our fingers and pray...
