Organizing for America staff have learned that there will be an organized protest in front of Rep. Mark Schauer's Jackson office on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 3:30.

OFA is asking that all progressives in the area that support health care reform turn out to this event to show our support for Rep. Schauer and to let him, the media, the voters and the anti-reform "teabaggers" know that THEY are the minority, not US!

As OFA State Director, Aletheia Henry put it: "We need ALL hands on deck for this one". Please, folks, attend if you can. Bring a handmade sign to show your support for health care reform and for Rep. Schauer's stance on reform. We must start winning the day with these media events.

We overwhelmed 'em

By roughly 4 to 1. Way to go!

This was the first of three rallies the Republican party is planning. Maybe we scared them off and they will stay home the next two Thursdays.

I estimate our team had a crowd of over 300 at the peak around 3:45. At one time, the rotating walking lines ran down to the corner of the next block!

Mark Schauer addressed the crowd around 4:20, and got a big, enthusiastic response.

Many stayed to counter the republican rally, though their turnout was so poor it was easy to drown them out with cheers and chants of "everybody in: nobody out."
