And now we're being told by house members that it's the senate we need to pressure, that senate Republicans are the bottle neck.
Fine, we'll make even more calls -- or at least we hope our friends who are constituents in key districts will make those calls, because they aren't going to take them from Dems outside their districts.
(You can start with Kahn, Richardville, Jansen and Jelinek. Make sure they hear from angry parents in their district who are going to have to explain to their kids why our legislators aren't able to ensure they get a solid education from K-college.)
Legislators didn't have to resort to passing the buck. They didn't have to frighten and spook the newest young voters and activists, nor did they have to piss off parents.
They could have been heroes if they'd simply bucked up and dealt with budget reform two years ago, had simply found revenue enhancements during the most recent budget negotiations.
To the Dems who held the line and voted NO on cuts to education, thank you -- but let's hope it's not too little, too late. Let's hope those young folks who represent our newest crop of voters and activists are understanding and ready to go to bat for their progressive champions next year. |
