For people like Mikey Aqua-eyes Bishop, it's really easy to blame everybody else for problems which are global in nature and created by poor leadership, compounded by state and local leadership. Leadership like John Engler, who insisted it was okay to ditch a surplus by advocating "eating the seed corn" with crappy tax policy and poor long-term vision, handing off a multi-billion dollar deficit to his successor. Leaders like any of the business conservatives in this state who believe it's okay to outsource all manufacturing to countries which pay rock-bottom wages, like China, who further believe that taxes are evil and not the necessary insurance to pay for regulations which make this a safe place to do business. Leaders who've endorsed the kind of slash-and-burn approach to wages which directly impact our safety (if you've seen Michael Moore's movie "Capitalism," you know it has a direct effect on air safety). Leaders who think that investing is something people do only as individuals and not as a society, cutting deeper and deeper into infrastructure which made this state an attractive place for good workers and their employers. Sure, Mikey, you're right. Workers are paid too much in Michigan, and we should do something about this. Starting with YOU. You go first. And while you're at it, why don't you reimburse us for the the last four years of incredibly bad leadership? |
