Drug Immunity Vote Pushed Back Again Once again, the Republican-led Senate delayed a vote on the so-called drug immunity package that would make it easier for victims to win in-court damages for faulty drugs from pharmaceutical companies. Senate Majority Leader Alan Cropsey (R-DeWitt) moved to postpone taking up HB 4316, 4317, 4318 until Nov. 30. Democrats objected. "The motion is on the table right now," said Sen. Hansen Clarke(D-Detroit). "Let's do it." But the motion succeeded on a party-line 21-13 vote. One Republican insider told MIRS the action was payback for the Michigan Democratic Party's Justice Caucus' call for both Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop(R-Rochester) and House Speaker Andy Dillon (D-Redford Twp.) to be tossed from leadership.
The Justice Caucus consists of trial lawyers. Wake up Bishop/Dillon the MDP Justice Caucus IS NOT the trial lawyers fighting for their clients. MDP Justice Caucus is a progressive group focused on social and economic justice, civil rights and fairness with over 2000 members made up of just about every profession including your colleagues in Lansing, doctors, teachers, labor, etc. Michigan citizens remain the ONLY folks in the nation that cannot hold drug companies accountable for faulty drugs that maime and kill. This is putting petty partisan politics before human lives and holding the drug industry accountable like they do in EVERY other state.

Two Things (4.00 / 2)
1. If you knew the name "Justice Caucus" was already taken by a group of trial lawyers (a group which ranks right up there with teachers and "Big Labor" among GOP straw men/punching bags), why the hell would you name YOUR Group the "MDP Justice Caucus?" Are you intentionaly seeking to confuse people?

2. If this Senate action was entirely driven by Senate Republicans, why are you trying to blame this on Andy Dillon? Based on the anonymous word of one "Republican insider?" Please.

Justice Caucus (4.00 / 2)
Justice-4-all and several of the other bloggers that have suddenly appeared or re-appeared on this blog over the past month strongly attacking Dillon and trying to link him in every way to Mike Bishop are doing so because of the potential that Dillon may annouce in the future that he is running for Governor as a reformist Democrat.  The message Dillon would bring to the campaign is a threat to certain interests in the Democratic Party and the chances of Republicans to re-capture the Governor's office.

Dillon (0.00 / 0)
The idea that the Justice Caucus has to do special work linking Andy Dillon to Mike Bishop invites laughter, Brady.  He did that all by himself last month, and it's been noted more than just on this blog, but also on editorial pages and by columnists around the state.

And, it's not just in the newspapers that this connection has been noted.  I had a local official up here e-mail me about a column I wrote about the budget, and mention that local officials up here were watching things in Lansing very closely and that they didn't much trust Dillon.

The trick for Dillon is whether whatever deal comes out of this will be successful at unlinking Dillon from Bishop.

Dillon, Cherry - Same thing (0.00 / 0)
At least when it comes to taxes. Dillon may be better on life issues and Cherry's good on guns, but neither are fiscally moderate let alone conservative. For all the proposed deals out there between Dillon and Bishop, the truth is in the voting records.

Dillon voted for the tax increases. That's why I wonder about the fuss he's getting from your party.

My own opinion. I hope they beat the hell out of each other politically.

Dillon = your sock puppet (0.00 / 0)
Thank you for sharing Republican play book with us. Of course you hope Dillon and Cherry beat each other up. They'd be saving you guys the work, and they'd buy your team time to get their sorry act together.

And you hope, of course, that Dillon will win the primary because as Harry Truman once said, "Given a choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will vote for the real Republican all the time," Pit Andy against any real Republican, and Republican voters won't stray from their own party -- even if Andy ran as an independent.

Which would be a blessing for you Republicans because the field of candidates you've got are rather pathetic:

-- Rick Snyder, who had to buy the underage drinking vote at a closed Republican event to win;
-- Pete Hoekstra, who can't be trusted with our national security or a BlackBerry;
-- Mike Cox, who can't be trusted around anything in a skirt.
-- Bouchard and George have little name recognition outside their districts.

I almost feel sorry for you. Almost. Really.

There's this agreement (0.00 / 0)
Maybe you've heard of it...the Bishop-Dillon budget agreement?  The one Dillon has yet to share with anybody but Bishop?

Nobody has to make the link between these two; they've done all by themselves.

As for Dillon running as what you refer to as a "reformist Democrat" - we'd need to see proof.

On the matter of reform, Dillon has done jack to reform the budget process even though he's the leader of the house. He couldn't have had any more power to do something about it, and yet we ended up with a replay on his watch.

And with regards to being a Democrat: what has this guy actually done for any Democratic Party constituency while serving as leader of the house? The only constituencies he's served are his anti-union business peeps and Andy himself.
