| The Freep: WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra this morning used an open meeting of the Intelligence subcommittee to demand the Obama administration reveal its plan for closing the Guantanamo Bay detention camp and whether terror suspects could be moved into Michigan. Hoekstra, a Holland Republican and candidate for governor, was rebuked by committee chairman Silvestre Reyes for trying to inject an issue that is outside the committee's jurisdiction. "This shouldn't be about a personal issue you want to look at," said Reyes.
...snip... Munson's appearance on the panel of witnesses was clearly incongruous. The other two were former intelligence community officials with deep knowledge about congressional notification. Asked if he thought Hoekstra was trying to win support back home by introducing Gitmo into the hearing, Reyes said, "You'd have to ask him that."
Peter Hoekstra ... a man trying to convert missteps on the House intel committee into the Michigan governorship. |
