Campaign news and rumors

Who will replace Rick Jones, R-Grand Ledge? Two Republicans and a Democrat are looking to jump into the race. Most of us realize this isn't really too early to start running for office, or trying to get as much free media exposure as Ye Olde Emm Ess Emm finally disappear from the face of the planet, just another extinct species in an uncaring world.

Speaking of which, if you're in the Bay County area, Bay County Commissioner Brian Elder, candidate to win the Dem nod in the 96th District, is having a spaghetti dinner fund raiser tonight. Kids eat free. The winner of that primary -- right now between him and the mayor of Bay City -- will probably be your new state representative from that district.

And, while this isn't strictly speaking about a candidate or a campaign or even specifically about an election, a few Republicans in the U.P. are facing fraud charges. The three include former county party chairman and a previous candidate for the House. Others may have insights into what impact this might have on local organizing and campaign strategy.

And not a moment too soon (0.00 / 0)
The 71st State House District is a swing state that is open to both parties. The fact that Robinson has started a campaign this early, and has actively hit the pavement is a great sign. I' haven't heard of any other possible Democratic candidates at this time, but there are a few that might emerge. Should the GOP have a nice bloody primary, we can sit and enjoy.

Brian Elder has been a MichLib supporter for a while.  Nice to see readers and supporters running for office.  Makes my voice feel less echo-y in Lansing.

Elder's campaign looks like it is gaining momentum and garnering serious support. Good Luck, Brian!

Word on the street... (0.00 / 0)
Word on the street is that I owe Brian Elder's campaign manager some money for a breakfast coffee for which I forgot to bring my money.
