Mike Cox could melt your face with his amazing mental powers

Spoon bending*, Mike Cox style:

LIVONIA, MI—Mike Cox today said Democrats’ plan to get into the banking business, grow an already bloated state government with a massive new spending program and leave families on the hook for the bank’s losses is irresponsible.

"It sounds like there's nothing to it, but that's like saying the Sistine Chapel is just paint on plaster."

The proposed bank could cost hundreds of millions of dollars and leave taxpayers on the hook for bad investments and financial losses at a time when state government should shrink not grow. ...

"Execution is everything to a magician, and Geller is a master of the art."

Cox renewed his call to dramatically cut government spending, slash the jobs tax called the Michigan Business tax and cut the income tax on families to turn around Michigan’s economy.

"Witnesses would claim they'd never taken their eyes off him, but videotapes would later show he'd distracted them just long enough to make whatever preparations he needed."

“Government spending is out of control at the state and federal level,” said Cox. “The last thing taxpayers need right now is to pay more taxes to create more government spending on their behalf. Michigan taxpayers shouldn’t have been forced to bail out big Wall Street banks for mistakes they made and Lansing shouldn’t build a state-owned bank at taxpayers’ expense. At some point gubernatorial candidates, members of the state legislature and Congress, even members of my own Party, have to start being fiscally responsible.”

Does anybody remember laughter?

Guess what... (4.00 / 3)
... the idea of State or Regional development banks is not a new idea at all. In Germany, for example as part of their economic planning and policy, regional banks have long held interests in major employers and technology firms that promote economic activities in there Bundeslaendern. In fact, this practice is common just about everywhere else in the developed world, except the USA.

Since Mikey is so young and ignorant, and perhaps some of you might be interested, here is the story of the Great Lakes Development Bank proposed in 1988 by several Great Lakes governors at the time.

Should anyone be interested in Michigan's economic development past, here is a list of activites under Gov Blanchard and Engler.

Under Gov. Blanchard
Michigan Economic Development Authority (MEDA) (1982)
Michigan Strategic Fund (smaller version of 21st Century Jobs Fund) (1984)
Michigan Research Excellence Fund (1985)
Michigan International Trade Authority (MITA) (1986)
Michigan Modernization Service (1986)
Great Lakes Economic Pact and Great Lakes Development Bank (1988)

Additional
Commission on Jobs and Economic Development - Headed by Iacocca (Chrysler) and Fraser (UAW) (1983)
Path to Prosperity Initiative (1984)
Zero Growth Budget (1983)

Under Gov Engler
Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA) - Now "High-Tech" MEGA (1995)
Michigan Renaissance Zone Act (1996)
Michigan Merit Scholarship (1999)
Michigan Economic Development Corp (MEDC) (1999)
Michigan Jobs Commission (1999)
Michigan Department of Career Development (1999)
Michigan Life Sciences Corridor (1999)

Additional
Land Trust Fund (1984 Proposed) - an interesting wild idea by a still somewhat normal State Senator Engler.

Of course, the only people that have really paid much attendtion to all this history are the old-timers and (why is it always) the Mackinac Center, which of course, hates all the the above.

You will be hearing the term "right climate for business" a lot this year from GOP candidates. Why, it's in the Mackinac Center training material, and actually learning about what real economic development is or should be is, well, hard work.

My god... (4.00 / 3)
...it's just one meme and conservative talking point after another.  Talk about self-fulfilling prophecies.  It's quite literally the policy of the modern Republican Party to run and be elected to government on the idea that government doesn't work, and to then sabotage it to make the meme true.

I've had a lot of bad things to say about Dillon on the Democratic side of things, but Cox is easily the most vapid, the most bought-and-paid-for, the most unscrupulous politician running for any nomination, right now, and that's saying alot.    There's just no there there.  The guy is moral and intellectual bankruptcy personified.

Local media Exposure (4.00 / 1)
Why is it the local media outlets don't print this kind of stuff? I found it extremely interesting the amount of people who were going to vote for Michael Cox before the article about his B/S phone record amnesia. This is the stuff that has put Michigan in the poor house for years. The people of the state don't take the time to research or have the knowledge.

They just take what they hear as fact and put these jerks in office.

Has MiCox ever had an original thought? (4.00 / 1)
Just wondering.
