Campaign news and rumors: Tee Vee weatherman joins 105th race

by: Eric B.

Sat Mar 13, 2010 at 12:19:50 PM EST

Every Monday, while I'm driving around for work, I hear the voice of the newest addition to the Republican field for the 105th District. It's Greg MacMaster, who not only does the weather for one of the northern Michigan Tee Vee stations (7 & 4), but also for WUPS (98.5).  (Personal disclaimer: MacMaster's radio forecasts regularly fill me with a murderous rage, but that's only because Monday is my Friday and his information is usually that it's going to be cold, overcast, and probably snowy on my days off.)

The official announcement is expected to come on Monday. MacMaster's announcement is not unexpected. Last year, a complaint was filed against MacMaster for campaigning without filing paperwork, and he has been criticized over residency issues. In fact, as has happened with a couple of other candidates in this race, an anonymous hit blog popped up. Those hit blogs are rumored to be connected to the candidacy of Dennis Lennox.

MacMaster will enter an already crowded field including Lennox, embattled Cheboygen County Drain Commissioner and general purpose publicity hound; Ken Glasser, Otsego County Commissioner; Tim Boyko, Norwood Township supervisor; and dairy farmer Triston Cole.

Macmaster = easy win for House Dems (0.00 / 0)
From what I hear from my up north Dems, they think they can pick up this seat should McMaster win the primary tussle. He has a lot of baggage, they say. I dont know what his primary opponents are attacking him on but from what I hear from Democrats it's bad and fairly accurate. I think there has to be a reason why he'd move from Traverse to run in the 105th especially when he could probably beat Howard Walker in the 37th District Senate primary.

I have a place in the 106th House District and I guess there was some serious thought he might run for the 37th because he made some junkets here last summer to explore.

I have taken this precaution because Dennis Lennox, one of MacMaster's opponents in this race, has already been accused of sock puppetry and because after a review of this profile can't find any solid reason to believe that this is not an attempt to engage in more of the same, either by way of him or his surrogates (i.e. friends living in and around the Midland area).

If you are a genuine person, I will happily restore your access to this account and will publicly note as such.

You have to prove your individual personhood... (0.00 / 0)
You may thanks those persons who in the past have acted like jackasses and exploited a very liberal approach to posting pseudynymously.  I'm not talking about people who create fake identities so people don't know they're on the Internet, either. If you question six people about their conduct, you'll find that probably five are on the up and up.  That sixth person, however, ruins it for the other five. Were it not for those people, there'd be no reason to be suspicious.

Don't need to be a weatherman... (0.00 / 0)
To know that MacMaster might be a good fit for this district. In a normal race I would say that the addition of another candidate would make media hound/self funder like Lennox's path easier to the nomination. However, given that two of the candidates (Cole and Glasser) have done little fund raising, and that Lennox has proven himself very capable of self-destruction, I wouldn't be surprised to see MacMaster rolling in some endorsements. And by the way Dennis, being a fan on Jennifer Granholm on facebook is no biggie-MacMaster is and so is Republican Rep Tim Moore based on the screen shot you provide.

Those may not be his only sockpuppet related adventures (0.00 / 0)
I've gotten e-mails before from "people" wanting me to post Lennox rebuttal to things happening to them.  The last time, the person suggested I ought to be fair and cover the misdeeds of everyone in the race ... including directing me to one of those anonymous hit blogs everyone assumes is connected to the Lennox camp.
