From 2007:

U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, hinted last week the United States could further reduce its dependence on foreign oil by drilling in the Great Lakes, going a step further than legislation introduced earlier this month by federal lawmakers seeking to allow offshore drilling.

Just for the purposes of keeping score ... Peter Hoekstra startled everyone a few years back by opposing John Engler's plans to allow more and greater drilling in the Great Lakes.

So did Mike Rogers (4.00 / 2)

Back in 2005, he tried to water down Stupak's amendment to permanently ban drilling in the Great Lakes.

And in 2001, he was the only member of the MI delegation to oppose a ban on drilling. At that time, Pete Hoekstra said

" The amount of oil and gas that would come out of Lake Michigan in my district would be so minimal, it is not worth the risk, " said Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich.
