MDP goes after Bill Schuette

by: ScottyUrb

Mon May 24, 2010 at 15:05:43 PM EDT

The MDP always does a better job than the DNC at hitting Republicans where it hurts. And they're using the oil spill to go after the candidate widely seen as the Republican favorite for Attorney General.

Witness the MDP's smackdown of Schuette:

Pretty powerful stuff.

I just don't understand why they're already going after him when he isn't the nominee yet. Maybe they think Bishop's been attacked a lot more? Maybe they want to soften Schuette's support with Republicans voting at their convo in a couple months ("The MDP is going after Schuette, so let's fool them and pick Bishop instead.") It seems (to me anyway) that there's a lot more to attack Bishop on - shutdowns, laziness, ignoring the will of the people - than Schuette, so making Republicans less akin to like Schuette doesn't sound like a bad strategy at all. (Though Schuette is more or less a career politician, having been a Congressman in the 1980s and getting p0wned by Carl Levin in the 1990 Senate race.)

Not a bad strategy, you're right.
Everyone hates Mike Bishop, because he's the face of the state legislature (people hate him almost as much as they hate Andy Dillon).

The MDP can't lose: Shuette's reputation is tarnished so bad he either won't win the general election, OR he won't win the primary against the much less formidable Bishop.
