Bouchard claims internal polling shows him tied for 1st

by: Eric B.

Mon Jul 19, 2010 at 13:14:38 PM EDT

And, he wants Michigan to be a Right to Work state.

Oakland County – Mike Bouchard, Republican candidate for governor, announced he will advocate for Michigan to become a Right to Work state on the heels of internal polling numbers showing him tied for first place. Former First Lady Michelle Engler and Jane Abraham issued the following joint statement.

The joint statement is that both Engler and Abraham are endorsing Bouchard.

You can put as much stock as you'd like into internal polling numbers. Me, I look at Right to Life pledging to get into the race heavily for Mike Cox before the primary, bringing to bear its endorsement, and then I look at this Bouchard endorsement -- spouses of a political retread and the spouse of a political has-been -- and interpret things mostly through that lens.

Right to work... (4.00 / 2)
Seems like a smart guy like Bouchard would be able to do some research...

"In 2003, the U.S. Department of Labor reported that 19 of the 25 states with the highest worker fatality rates were right-to-work states, while just three of the bottom 25 states were right-to-work states. A study by the Economic Policy Institute showed that workers in right-to-work states earned an average of 6.5% less than their counterparts in states without the law. None of the 22 right-to-work states had an average annual pay level above the U.S. average."

I guess Mike advocates more jobs, but less safety and less wages...

I would put a lot of faith in an internal poll, if it's fully released.... (4.00 / 1)
If we aren't allowed to see both the questions and the exact totals, what it says is the candidate involved is losing.

There are a lot of definitions of being "first".  Not honest definitions, but the sort of thing you might write if you were a political hack working for somebody who told you what he needed written for the press conference.  For example - and I have no idea if this is the case - "If you know that only one candidate had stood up to the special interests, and the rest were lying weasels, would you vote for the stand-up guy?  Or the weasels?"

A slightly less egregious case is more likely:  he was first (or "within the margin of error from first") after they read talking points supposed to represent each candidate's strengths and weaknesses.  Which is why it's essential to see 1) the wording of EVERYTHING read to the interviewee, and 2) the exact totals.

My bet:  we won't see either.

Internal Poll.. (4.00 / 1)
He might as well put out a statement touting an internal poll that says he's the most awesomest candidate in the world!

Getting the coveted Spousal Endorsement... (4.00 / 2)
Apparently, Abraham and Engler didn't want to connect their good names to Bouchard's failing effort. So they made their wives take the hit instead (what, the Engler triplets weren't available?).

Stay classy, John and Spence!

The triplets are about the same age as Justin Bieber (0.00 / 0)
So why won't John have them do a 'song' to express their support for George W. Mike Bouchard?

Then maybe the so-called "liberal" media can paint them as rising stars worth as much attention as Bieber, thus breaking into regular programming when Madeline hits her head on a revolving door. Meanwhile, said media uses it all as another excuse to ignore real issues.

Right To Work (4.00 / 2)
The U.S. Supreme Court led by a Conservative GOP rules that Corporations, Unions can spend unlimited monies for elections. So the GOP running scared that unions have the number of membership want to strip the Labor Unions of any funds to spend on Political action by making Michigan a Right To Work state. But is it written anywhere, that shareholders can vote in their proxies or at Annual meetings to withhold Corporate spending on elections? Can consumers choose products or services that cost less to keep these Corporations out of elections? No, of course not. The real war is not in Iraq or Afghanistan, the real war is in this Country and it is an accelerated CLASS WAR.

Right To Work (4.00 / 2)
22 States are Right To Work in the United States. All 22 have state budget deficits, all have cut programs, all have declining revenues. Is this the GOP answer for Michigan?

The top 10 worse states to find employment have 6 of them Right To Work. Is this the example Michigan needs?

Right To Work is a nuclear bomb to start a class war. The gap between the haves and the haves not is still growing and the GOP is scared of this, so they use the tactics they only know how to use. Divide the balance of the middle class and pit them against the lower class.
