Poll shows Walberg walking away with the GOP nod in the 7th

by: Eric B.

Fri Jul 23, 2010 at 14:07:27 PM EDT

From the latest Inside Michigan Politics:

Former Congressman Tim Walberg (R-Tipton) has piled up a big lead in his GOP primary battle against two opponents in the 7th CD, according to another IMP/PPC
survey.

According to the poll, Walberg has the support of 48 percent of respondents, while Brian Rooney gets the support of only about 16 percent. Thirty percent of respondents are undecided, with the remaining handful going for the third guy.

Well, shoot (4.00 / 2)
I may have to actually revive "Walberg Watch" from its long slumber...

I mean, I don't like Brian Rooney at all either, and was thinking of getting back into the 7th district blogging business anyway. But still.

I worry about small samples in big races. (0.00 / 0)
This situation illustrates where small-sample polling works well.  Nobody outside CD7 has a clue what's going on there, and it turns out the situation is pretty stark:  Walberg is WAY ahead.  Doesn't take 400 interviews or $8000 to figure it out.

Now - as far as the gubernatorial situation on the Democratic side - I sure wish we had more data to work with.  I'm a lot less confident than Bill that we know everything we need to know.
