So, about that independent, non-partisan Tea Party movement

by: Eric B.

Fri Aug 27, 2010 at 13:50:44 PM EDT

We all knew all along that the non-partisan angle to the Tea Party movement was a bunch of hooey. I'm glad we're finally allowed to admit it in public without a lot of yelling about how people are trying to pigeonhole those people as Republican activists.

Michigan tea party supporters flocked to Republican party meetings across the state this month and won several hundred delegate seats for the Saturday state convention, including Weiser's. Now, the activists are positioned for an attempt to push the Michigan GOP further to the right and put hard-core conservatives on November's general election ballot.

This is probably why Anne Norlander's latest campaign video claims that she is qualified to be Secretary of State because she possesses a CCW, and promises to stand up to ACORN, an organization that for intents and purposes no longer exists.

... what happened at the Michigan Republican State Convention after the Primary on August 28, 2010.

Press Coverage (and there wasn't much - GOP owns much of the MSM, of course):

Detroit Free Press, by Dawson Bell, Kathleen Gray and Christoff, Aug. 29, 2010 in "Tea party storms gates, but Snyder gets running mate":

EAST LANSING -- In a raucous, record-setting eight-hour session, tea party boosters showed their muscle at the state Republican Party convention, barely ratifying gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder's choice for lieutenant governor, Brian Calley, and forcing showdowns in fights for attorney general and secretary of state.

In what's supposed to be a big Republican year, it was clear Republicans have a tiger by the tail with the tea party.

AP story posted on AnnArbor.com entitled "Michigan Republican Convention erupts in anger; Rick Snyder calls for unity":

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan Republican convention erupted into anger Saturday as tea party activists fought with party regulars over candidates and convention rules.

Gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder appealed for unity, but the moderate Ann Arbor businessman got only a tepid response from conservatives in the crowd.

Also found this Video Montage (by the West Michigan Tea Party?) that shows all the chaos, and a Republican official shouting "PLEASE COOPERATE, PLEASE COOPERATE... (shouting starts at 0:50 of 5:29mins)

From some Right-wingnut Blogs:
Tea Party Org - Retake Our Government (retakourgov.com) on the GOP Convention, a clip:

Many RetakeOurGov members were selected to be delegates and alternates to the Michigan Republican Convention held at the Breslin Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI [Aug 28, 2010].  For members of RetakeOurGov, this was their first convention.

From a Conservative Michigan Blog is a description of what happened a couple clips from that:

At around 10:45 am - forty-five minutes past the scheduled start time - the Convention officially began, which led to nearly eight hours' worth of candidate speeches, formal and informal votes, and a Tea Party uproar.

(Break)

All in all, the thousands of GOP supporters - from Delegates to Alternate Delegates, Republican elected officials to County and Congressional District leaders, establishment backers to Tea Party proponents - that packed the Breslin Center surely endured a State Convention to remember.

This was the coverage from the August 2010 Tea Party Revolt at the Michigan Republican State Convention after Rick Snyder took the Michigan GOP nomination for Governor.
