Meet The "Let Rapists Choose Their Baby's Mother" Gang! MI-07, MI-08, MI-09

(From the diaries! - promoted by Eric B.)

A few days ago, I posted a diary in support of Lance Enderle's campaign in which, along with several other key points, I pointed out his opponent, 5-term incumbent Republican Mike Rogers' extreme position on reproductive rights for women:

4. MIKE ROGERS WANTS RAPE VICTIMS FORCED TO CARRY RAPISTS' OFFSPRING: The whole nation is abuzz about Alan Grayson's opponent, "Taliban Dan" Webster. Well, guess what? Republican Mike Rogers is also so extreme on abortion that he wants women who are the victims of rape to be forced to give birth to their rapist's offspring. I can't imagine the injustice of police detaining & supervising rape victims for 9 months until their rapists' spawn are born. Yet that is the necessary consequence of Mike Rogers' position.

While it's common knowledge that Rogers is anti-choice, in that diary I forgot to include a link to my source for this particular bit of disturbing detail on just how far his own Taliban-like stance goes: The website for the Republican National Coalition for Life, which displays the results of a questionnaire they sent out to all GOP candidates.

I also failed to mention that it's not just "Taliban Dan" down in FL-08 and Mike Rogers in MI-08 who thinks victims of rape should be forced to bear their attacker's child. There's at least 78 others who feel that way as well. These aren't theoretical candidates--these are the actual winners of the GOP primary.

Take a look at the list and see if the GOP candidate--or, worse yet, the incumbent--in your own district is on this list.

Meanwhile, back here in Michigan, we're facing a trifecta: The Republican nominees in MI-07 (Tim Walberg), MI-08 (incumbent Mike Rogers) and MI-09 (Rocky Raczkowski) are all on the list. In fact, the GOP nominees in 8 of Michigan's 15 districts--including, inexplicably, one female incumbent, Candice Miller--all honestly believe the following:

THEY BELIEVE RAPISTS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO CHOOSE THE MOTHER OF THEIR CHILDREN.

Think about that for a moment.

Meet Bob the Rapist. Bob wants to have a kid. Why? Who knows; hell, maybe he likes thinking long-term and wants to have a daughter, so he can stock up on rape victims for the future. Let's also say that Bob has a really good lawyer and is meticulous with his rape preparations, minimizing the odds of his getting convicted if caught.

Bob could pick out whichever woman he wants to be the mother of his child, rape them, impregnate them, and--according to sickos like Mike Rogers, Tim Walberg, Rocky Raczkowski and at least 77 other Republican congressional candidates--the victim should be LEGALLY REQUIRED TO BRING THE FETUS TO TERM AND GIVE BIRTH.

Incumbent Democrat Mark Schauer (MI-07) is pro-choice, but is facing a tight race against teabagger & rapist-enabler Tim Walberg.

Incumbent Democrat Gary Peters (MI-09) is pro-choice, but is facing a tight race against teabagger & rapist-enabler Rocky Raczkowski.

And finally, my own candidate-du-jour, Democratic Challenger Lance Enderle is pro-choice, but needs as much help as possible to take out incumbent rapist-enabler Mike Rogers.

If you click Lance's ActBlue link, you'll notice that it's a little different--it takes you to a special page reserved for his upcoming "Bacon Bomb", running from Midnight Sunday until Midnight Monday.

However, please don't wait until then to donate--give, and give generously if you can! Given the rather unusual circumstances of Lance's entry into the campaign, he had a bit of a late start in fundraising, and he's gonna need every dime he can muster to have a chance at taking out Rogers.

Did my part to keep Rocky out of DC today. (4.00 / 3)
I delivered lawn signs for Gary Peters.  I did it last week and I'll be doing the rest of the week.

As for Walberg, we was one of the League of Conservation Voters Dirty Dozen back in 2008.  In fact, he was the headliner of the League of Conservation Voters Dirty Dozen in 2008.

Congressman Tim Walberg Named Last Member of the 2008 Dirty Dozen

"Tim Walberg has distinguished himself as one of the most anti-environment members of the 2006 Congressional class," said Duggan.  "He has consistently voted against clean, renewable energy and is an adamant supporter of the failed Bush/Cheney energy policies that serve only to increase profits for ExxonMobil and the other big oil companies.  The citizens of Michigan's 7th District need a leader who represents them and not the interests of Big Oil."

Rep. Walberg opposed every major clean energy reform in Congress last year. He voted against repealing subsidies to Big Oil, against increasing the use of renewable electricity and against efforts to help American drivers go further on a gallon of gas.  Walberg has opposed extending tax incentives to clean energy which would lead to thousands of new jobs in Michigan.

...

"While Tim Walberg has spent the last two years defending Big Oil's record profits in Washington, Mark Schauer has been working with businesses to help them invest in renewable energy technology and create jobs right here in the 7th district," said Schauer Campaign Manager B.J. Neidhardt. "Sen. Schauer has championed renewable energy throughout his career, and he will be a strong advocate for the environment as a member of Congress."

Rep. Tim Walberg's LCV Score is a dismal 5%.*  In 2007, he voted against conservation and clean energy and conservation on 19 of 20 key votes.  In 2008, he voted against every major piece of clean energy and energy efficiency legislation.  He also voted against the No Child Left Inside Act, designed to help educate children about the natural environment.

The profile at the link doesn't say explicitly that he denies climate science, but his actions are completely consistent with his doing so.

On the other hand, Schauer is a green jobs person.

Finally, I'm retweeting the Lance Enderle diaries on Daily Kos so that they get more exposure (and the money bomb gets more money tomorrow).

Greetings from Detroit, Ground Zero of the post-industrial future!

Awesome all around, thanks! (4.00 / 2)
I've been focusing on MI-08 for obvious reasons, but Peters & Schauer need our help as well, of course.

I'm pissed at both of them for supporting extending the ultra-rich Bush tax cuts, but issues like this take precedence.

If the tax cuts aren't extended this year, they will be retroactively extended in 2011 (0.00 / 0)
Only if that happens, God only knows how many amendments the newly-empowered Republicans will put on it to advance their agenda.

How many poison pills would it take to force an Obama veto?

How many lose-lose positions would Democrats in both the House and Senate have to pick from?

Tax cut extansions for the middle class BUT the consumer protection bureau gets scrapped?

Tax cut extensions for the middle class BUT all the pending portions of "Obamacare" are repealed?

Tax cut extensions for the middle class BUT ... you get the idea.

And if anyone thinks that Senate Democrats would stand firm and threaten a filibuster...since it's a tax bill, Republicans could use reconciliation just like they did in 2001 and 2003 -- and line up Joe Lieberman and Ben Nelson to make sure it gets the 51 votes.
