KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - State Rep. Robert Jones (D-Kalamazoo) passed away Sunday morning. The family released a statement.
“Robert Jones died suddenly this morning after a long battle with cancer. We appreciate the support, thoughts and prayers of his colleagues and our community during this difficult time.
“Robert loved working for the people of our community. He was a dedicated public servant who took his job to heart and was a tireless advocate for the people he served. His leadership and hard work will be missed by those who will always think of him as their mayor.
“Funeral arrangements will be announced as details become available. Until then, the family asks for privacy during this difficult time.”

Shocking.

From what I've known about him, he was a top-notch gentleman.

He would have been a superb Senator as well.

My deepest sympathies to all who knew and loved him.

We are sitting here right now

at Kalamazoo County Democratic Party headquarters, heartbroken.

There are really no words to say.

Bob has been at the center of our party for so many years, from his years as Kalamazoo Mayor, to his years in the House, his was the voice that defined our party and got us energized to get out and do what needed to be done.

We don't yet know anything about funeral arrangements or what will happen with the 20th Senate race. We are just trying to process our loss.

I'll probably be here for a while, just talking to people as they come in.

Our deepest sympathy to Callie, his children, and all his loved ones.

Sad News

Having been involved in Kalamazoo politics for a while back in the day I was very saddened by this news. Bob Jones was a great public servant. I fondly remember door knocking with him during GOTV in 06 and having people wave and stop on the street to say hi to the Mayor even though he hadn't been the Mayor for almost a year.
