Kathy Nickolaus - the County Clerk who "found" the ballots

by: Grebner

Fri Apr 08, 2011 at 05:25:40 AM EDT

PPC has repeatedly crossed paths with Ms. Nickolaus, and we can offer a distinctive perspective on recent events in Wisconsin:  she would have been willing to steal the election if she could have, but I don't think she got the chance.

It's important to understand first that Nickolaus was at the very center of a conspiracty to embezzle millions of dollars of public money, which was secretly used to create voter lists for the Wisconsin Republican Party.  (Unfortunately, that operation was matched by an exact mirror-image, which was operating on behalf of the Democrats.)  By the time it was all over, both the Speaker of the Assembly (Republican) and the Majority Leader of the State Senate (Democrat) were convicted and sent to prison.  Nickolaus was granted immunity from prosecution in exchange for her testimony, but there isn't the slightest doubt that she was involved in huge diversions of public funds.

Dismissed from her job running the political operation for the now disgraced Speaker, she returned to her base in Waukesha where she was elected County Clerk.  There, she has acquired a reputation for ruthless partisanship, indifference to propriety, and inability to follow instructions.

If the tallies in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race were fabricated, it was done by somebody with a great deal of organizational and arithmetic ability.  In other words - not by Kathy Nickolaus.  It's conceivable there is some evil genius lurking in a shadow, pulling strings, and keeping her from getting caught.  But if Nickolaus wasn't somebody's puppet, I think she screwed everything up by herself.

Grebner :: Kathy Nickolaus - the County Clerk who "found" the ballots

My funniest encounter with her involved PPC's collection of data from her office.  We needed to photograph ten or twenty thousand pages of election records, at Waukesha, and because she knew we were Democrats, she set to work creating barriers.  She finally seized upon the bizarre claim that altough we had every right to LOOK at the records, we had no right to use "her" electricty in copying them.  We got her to place that statement in writing, and then simply rigged up a marine battery - like an auto battery, but operating at 6 volts.  It provided enough power to run our camera and lights all day, and could be recharged overnight.

She was so angry at being outsmarted that she simply left the office while we worked.

She's a criminal, a creep, and an idiot.  It's certainly a good idea to have an thorough investigation of exactly what went on.  And this time, she ought to be held responsible for every violation of state law she committed.  But my opinion is she's too dumb to have organized the fabrication that would have been necessary.

The battery story could be the funniest thing I've read this week.

Saw her on television (4.00 / 2)
I saw her on television, the other night, and while before I thought it was likely she may have rigged this, after seeing her speak, it became quite clear that she probably has to have help dressing herself, so it looks more unlikely she rigged this.

That said, her couting methods definitely needs to be looked over.  Could very well be her incompetence f#cked up the process.  You know, it's possible that she's both stupid and corrupt.  I'd like if someone with some money could come in a do a thorough recount.

Correction: Scott Jensen DIDN'T "go to prison". (4.00 / 2)
The "Republican Speaker" I referred to didn't actually "go to prison".  As Wikipedia recounts:

In 2002, Jensen was charged with misuse of public workers and state resources as part of a large state scandal that affected both parties. Jensen resigned from office on March 21, 2006, after being initially convicted on three counts on March 12. The conviction was reversed on appeal, however. Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard announced that he intends to retry Jensen, although as of late 2009, venue disputes put into question whether prosecution must take place closer to Jensen's residence in Waukesha County.  On December 20, 2010, the felony charges were dropped and Jensen agreed to pay the state of Wisconsin his lawyers fees when they were defending him. Jensen pleaded guilty to an ethics charge

Not exactly what you'd call a ringing exoneration, but he deserves credit for not running for public office and for staying out of the papers since then.
