While acknowledging that change is always difficult, the Governor said, “Michigan’s citizens need to focus on ‘we’ not ‘me.’ Cuts to education have been coupled with tax cuts to business in order to make budget pain and joy more fair across our state.” These new strategies are part of the governor’s overall plans for reforming how the state does business through his Michigan Divestment Initiatives (MDI). “We as a state need to be more strategic in our use of resources. In the coming years, we’re going to close down money-losing divisions and refocus our energies on our core strengths; those areas of government where there are plenty of growth opportunities.” The Governor has previously stated his excitement about the state’s opportunities for profit in the area of corrections, which he sees as critical to the state’s upward trajectory. “As we continue to divest in education, social services, and public safety, we anticipate plenty of growth opportunities in law-offender storage capacity.” More information about the governor’s trend-setting MDI can be found at MichiganDashboard.com. ##### |
