|  The residue of awful left by the Goat Killer will take a long time to wash off the state Capitol, meaning that for years after he is term limited out of office Dave Agema will still show up in rankings of Michigan's worst people by default. You'll think you're clear of it and then a small space will clear up and the stench of awful will rise anew.
In the past, he's attempted to arm social workers and skipped the most important vote of his legislative career to kill goats. After he was marked unexcused for being absent without an excuse, he reportedly became enraged at Andy Dillon. This year, it's his bigotry that stands out. He is the lead sponsor on the bill that would enshrine the Constitution as supreme law in Michigan courts over foreign customs (something made unnecessary by the very nature of the U.S. Constitution and hierarchy of laws in this country), and his name was proudly affixed to the bill that stripped domestic partners of benefits if their partner worked for a public employer. He also wants the smaller number of cops on the street to add enforcing federal immigration policy to their workloads, and was none too happy to hear one of them Mooslems say a prayer that didn't end in a proper, "Amen," while leaving open the possibility that he doesn't believe that welts on a child is evidence of child abuse. Finally, he said that he believes that cutting worker job training incentivizes people to get off welfare, asked people to pray to God to help him win a Republican primary for Congress, and wants to amend the Constitution so that a trust fund set up specifically so it couldn't be raided by the Legislature could be raided by the Legislature. And, finally, at the end of the day, he declared war on a fund that helps provide clothing for orphans. Let me repeat that, a fund that helps provide clothing for orphans. Dave Agema, the Goat Killer, was Michigan's most odious political figure in 2011, and thanks to the vast body of odious work he's put in this year you can pencil him in as most odious for 2012 by default. |
