| By now, you've probably seen the video in which Willard Mitt "Mittens" Romney extolls the many virtues of the state of Michigan, including that the trees are the right height. My first reaction, upon hearing that, was, "What the hell is he talking about? Then, I remembered that it's Willard Romney we're talking about, the man who will say absolutely anything to get elected president. He can't pander to the far right like he'd probably like to, but the demographic of people who like trees comes with the handy advantage of being much bigger. You can understand their hesitation, considering that the repeal of another major source of revenue is being discussed in Lansing. *--Michigan moves on for-profit prisons even as the national trend is starting to move away from them. *--An attempt to further restrict access to abortion has gotten surprisingly little attention in the last couple of days, especially given the current political mood. Note to Michigan's House: There is no need to make it a crime to stalk or use coercion against others. Those are already illegal. *--The Michigan Senate passes a bill solely intended to prevent research assistants at the University of Michigan from forming a labor union, a clear violation of the state constitution. I am starting to suspect that the state Legislature employs a large number of people who simply have no idea what their jobs are supposed to be, or what elections are for. |
