| The longer the courtship of Joe Schwarz kept going, the odds that this was going to happen kept increasing. Lansing— Former U.S. Rep. Joe Schwarz has decided against becoming a Democrat to challenge Republican rival Tim Walberg in southern Michigan's 7th Congressional District. That leaves Kurt Haskell, a Monroe County attorney from Newport as Walberg's Democratic challenger. Democrats have been courting Schwarz for months to challenge Walberg, who knocked Schwarz out of Congress after one term during a hard-fought 2006 Republican primary.
Schwarz went on to say he thinks he would have won -- of course he would have -- but wondered how many more elections he's got in him. The answer to that, since 2006, has been zero (not counting his work on the stem cell campaign). Meanwhile, can we ask that if the standard "other party" response is going to be so predictable you could have seen it in your sleep that from now on it simply be omitted? It was included in this, and really served no purpose except to give some GOP mouthpiece an opportunity to say in newshole what he ought to be required to say on the opinion page. It added nothing to the story. |
