| Remember a couple of years ago when Magic Frank said that the real cause of the hours-long spill of oil into the Kalamazoo River was all the fault of government bureaucrats? Today, we learn that he was right. Enbridge pipeline controllers in Edmonton ignored repeated leak warnings for 17 hours before shutting down a pipeline that poured 20,000 barrels of oil into the Kalamazoo River in Michigan in July 2010, says a report from the U. S. National Transportation Safety Board. The report details how pipeline-monitoring staff in Enbridge’s Edmonton control room could not agree that a leak had occurred, while ignoring alarms that should have triggered a shutdown of the pipeline within 10 minutes of the leak occurring.
It's just like Magic Frank said. Gun-toting government thugs from the EPA barged their way into Enbridge's control room, held everyone at gunpoint for 17 hours, and then finally -- probably because the company's CEO begged and pleaded on his knees -- relented and allowed them to shut down the pipeline, averting further catastrophe. If you remember the other stuff Magic Frank had to say at the time, it was a negligible impact that basically went away immediately, so what are you people all complaining about, anyway? |
