Cassis: I will move aggressively to address a problem the lousy economy is addressing on its own

A whistle that only xenophobes can hear.

She weighed in Monday on the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in the Arizona immigration case:

“My opponent in this race, like President Obama, seeks to weaken our ability to control illegal immigration and favors allowing our borders to become open and insecure,” Cassis said in a statement. “Kerry Bentivolio is on the record as favoring the elimination of border controls. He has also stated that he opposes state initiatives, like Arizona’s, to control illegal immigration.  I support Arizona and Gov. (Jan)  Brewer’s attempts as a state on the frontline of illegal immigration to do all that is in their power to halt the flood of people crossing the border illegally.”

The law, mind you, was mostly tossed as unConstitutional, so apparently Nancy Cassis likes solutions that violate the U.S. Constitution. Maybe if she wins, she'll foreswear swearing an oath to uphold it as a "whimsical document" as is the rage among the teabagger set these days.

But, the important thing here is that she appears to believe in aggressive action to address a problem that is addressing itself.

In fact those numbers are surprising: they are sharply down, according to the Border Patrol—by more than sixty per cent since 2000, to five hundred and fifty thousand apprehensions last year, the lowest figure in thirty-five years. Illegal immigration, although hard to measure, has clearly been declining. The southern border, far from being “unsecured,” is in better shape than it has been for years—better managed and less porous. ...

In other words, if you really want to stem the flow of illegal immigrants northward, elect Willard. Taking thousands of middle class, white collar jobs in data entry, office management, and graphic design and converting them to the brown collar* jobs of burger flipping and pizza delivery has incentivized all sort of regular Americans to stop looking down their noses at work like day labor and landscaping.

*--Shitty.

Oh, this is getting good.
Fight, my pretties.  Fight!

That she's even talking about immigration issues at the Mexican broder hundreds and hundreds of miles away from Michigan's 11th is a thing of beauty.  I really hope Taj is taking advantage of this lull, and talking about things that really matter to this particular district.
