Prolly seen this.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed Colleen Pero to the Board of State Canvassers, filling a Republican vacancy on the bipartisan board after Jeff Timmer recently stepped down.

You can't spell bipartisan without partisan, once again raising the question, "Why do we even bother with this?" What makes the question so acute? She's written for the ultra-partisan think tank Heritage Foundation regarding an issue that might eventually wind up on the ballot.

Over the past 10 years, special interests have engaged in a highly coordinated, well-funded campaign to fundamentally alter the composition of America’s state courts. The campaign’s goal: to exclude conservative, rule-of-law judges from the bench. This campaign has been bankrolled by George Soros, a hedge fund operator with a net worth of $13 billion, according to the Forbes 400 list of the world’s richest people.

So, she's apparently one of those nutters who jumps and down and shrieks, "Soros! Soros!" I thought that was a job the Right left to its bloggers.

Again, we don't need a bipartisan board that shunts everything to an increasingly politicized courts (thanks to "rule of law" conservative judges who are mostly just engaged in overturning decades of precedent and cloaking their activism under the guise of being strict constructionists). Also, if the state shifts elections for the court of appeals and state supreme court to a selection process that starts with a panel of law experts and ends with gubernatorial appointments, it'll have to go on the ballot. Good to know that one of the people who'd have to rule on whether it belongs there on technical terms is already on record as opposing it.

I'm honestly surprised Snyder moved so quickly....

Inaction -- under the pretext of waiting for the Legislature to reconvene or something -- would probably have meant that the PA4 repeal and Protect Our Jobs initiatives would have kept off the November ballot.

Sure, Colleen Pero doesn't change the ideological stalemate, but it does remove the stink of hypocrisy and double-dealing that Jeff Timmer represented.

Until the inevitable day when she makes a blatantly partisan decision and unleashes a whole new hypocritical stench.
