| Here are two things that normal adults learn about doing something wrong: If you’re sorry, you apologize; and if you’re sincere, you understand that it’s all about you and not someone else. In that light, I give you Jase Bolger "apologizing" for conniving to rig an election. As Speaker of the House, I set my first priority to be real results for Michigan’s hard-working taxpayers. But I recently made a mistake when state Rep. Roy Schmidt left the Democratic Party because of its lack of focus on results. … Remember when Lisa Brown and Barb Byrum were banned from speaking for a day? Remember how Ari Adler tried for days to spin it so that it was somehow their fault, and not the fault of decision makers? Remember how they tried to make it about references to vaginas, and then rape, and then it was about temper tantrums? This is the exact same thing. They learned exactly zero the last time around. The developing image we have of Bolger is either of a leader so weak that he is forced to always play reaction to the actions of a powerless, minority party; or that of someone who can’t admit fault and who – based on what Skubick wrote yesterday – has to look like he’s in control of everything. If it’s the former, I can’t imagine why Republicans would continue to want him to lead them. If it’s the latter, it means that Michigan’s House Speaker is someone who may have never matured out of adolescence … or at least matured to the point where he is deserving the sort of power that comes with a House Speakership. |
