| I'd like to take issue with one paragraph in this editorial from the Toledo Blade calling for Jase Bolger to step down as House Speaker and Roy Schmidt to resign from the House. It's this one. Mr. Bolger would do better to step down immediately, and lawmakers should expel Mr. Schmidt. Otherwise, voters can validly assume that Michigan Republicans are the party of Tricky Dick, not Honest Abe -- and that they can expect more of the same.
Michigan Republicans have a good deal of ground to cover before they can even call themselves the party of Tricky Dick. Tricky Dick fell because his paranoia and sheer ambition required that his vast army of bag men, fixers, nut cutters, and dirty tricksters include people not up to the task. Jase Bolger and Roy Schmidt mostly had themselves, and communicated their ambitions in text messages that came across mostly as the lonely teenagers club. By the way, I realized it's an onlne poll, but the bast majority of Michiganders think that the House Speaker is a stinking liar. |
