| You've probably seen this by now, but Pete Hoekstra's defeat two years ago because of Right to Life giving someone else its endorsement (and prompting some talk about a Tea Party Right to Life organization) still apparently bothers him. Now, he's interested in only running in races where his victory is assured. If Pete Hoekstra had his way, he wouldn't have to campaign for a seat in the Senate right now. Instead, he would simply be chosen by the state legislature to represent Michigan.
This is surprising consistency. Not on the grounds that it's The New Thing among Republicans as a states' check on federal power, but because it would narrow the number of people permitted to vote down to a manageable. That's on top of the fact that in the state of Michigan, it would guarantee his victory without actually requiring anyone to campaign. This is your Party of New Ideas, mind you. They're always saying that they want to move forward by destroying the past. |
