| What a joke. WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney threw his campaign another curve ball when he revived the sensitive "birther" issue while campaigning in his native Michigan on Friday.
I take it most of you saw this. Obviously, Romney hasn't gone Birther. He's probably far too sophisticated for that. Obviously, what's happened is that Romney knows his audience, and the fact that they're believe really anything as long as it's about the other guy and very bad, and was playing to it. This feeds into the idea that the man will say exactly anything to win the presidency, and doesn't particularly care what it is. By the way, Magic Frank's column yesterday was an attempt to take Jeff Daniels -- Michigan's official plush toy -- to task for not caring too much for the people who still think the humorous part of Birtherism isn't that some people buy into it. He revived the usual tropes, that they're highly educated, concerned citizens who aren't a bit nutty or racist or homophobic. Then, reality intercedes once again, with this. |
