| We start with this golden oldie, from like a week ago. LANSING -- A Michigan State Police detective said he believed House Speaker Jase Bolger and state Rep. Roy Schmidt may have conspired to commit perjury when they recruited a fake Democratic candidate to run for a Grand Rapids House seat, records obtained by the Free Press show.
Today. The Republican leader said in a letter to the judges that a Michigan State Police investigation and an opinion from Kent County Prosecutor Bill Forsyth that no laws were broken should be the end of the matter. “The Court's valuable resources should not be tasked with continuing a political goose chase for crimes that have not been substantiated after significant inquiry and investigation,” Bolger wrote. Request denied. There's now a one-person grand jury investigating whether there were, in fact, laws broken. Jase Bolger, for his part, said that he doesn't believe the public's interest is served investigating whether it's true that he and Roy Schmidt conspired to commit perjury. If past is prologue, if and when the grand jury recommends criminal charges, we'll soon hear why Democrats made him do it. The Party of Personal Responsibility at work. |
