| Jase Bolger is being challenged as House Speaker next term. It's Kentwood Republican Ken Yonker. By the way, I haven't seen this reported in the last two days, but when Bing Goie announced in August his plans to put his name on the ballot -- presumably to load up another millstone around the neck of Roy Schmidt -- he said that if he won he wouldn't support Bolger as House Speaker if he won. Either the Grand Rapids Republicans are all outraged over the House Speaker's behavior (and, I'd hope, his immature attempt to blame Democrats for it), or this is part of the lingering War of the Roses internal stuff going back a decade and involving the Yobs. Who knows. Anyway, MIRS thought to share opinions about the Speaker's chances at being speaker next term. Says Kelly Rossman: Asked about whether the Speaker could be vulnerable in his own re-election bid, Rossman said having worked in that district years ago, she thinks the whole flap over Rep. Roy SCHMIDT (R-Grand Rapids) issue could work to Bolger's benefit."My expectation is in terms of mobilizing his own supporters" that could happen. Uh-huh ... I've heard that participation in a scheme to subvert an election is just the sort of thing to mobilize supporters. On the other hand, her business partner was the hired PR gun to manage the campaign to pull Schmidt's chesnuts out of the proverbial fire. You'd have to wonder if that sort of thing might explain why she thinks that participation in a serious political scandal is no big deal, and even an electoral benefit, although I don't see it mentioned anywhere. |
