Despite numerous sources who contend the “deal” was in the works, Mickey Blashfield, who is not very bashful about defending his bridge boss, dismissed it as “preposterous…none of this is true…there is no exchange..it will not happen.”But the day after he protested so loudly, he issued a second statement in which he did not repeat his protestations but merely offered, “I’ll leave the rumors and speculation to the unnamed sources…”
The business community and the auto companies apparently feared this quid pro quo might happen, which is why they voiced their deep concerns over such a back scratching scenario. And apparently Bobby King, who runs the union, got the message and announced he is not endorsing anything right now.
What Skubick doesn't mention is the damage done by the mere suggestion that the two were discussing an arranged marriage.
