| Here's a piece of advice for all you future candidates. If you have to run in a district that is significantly different than the one you won, probably best not to rely on a, "Stop worrying, these are my people" strategy to winning. A poll released today shows Amash trailing his Democratic challenger, Steve Pestka, with more than two weeks before Election Day. Pestka of Grand Rapids was up 34.9 percent to 33.8 percent for Amash of Cascade Township, according to a live operator poll of 400 likely voters conducted Wednesday and Thursday by Glengariff Group. Inc. If you've been following this race, even from the margins, it's been fairly apparent that Lil' Fella has largely taken a powder on the campaigning end of it. It's a foolish thing to do, even considering the conservative nature of the district, because Calhoun County ain't Allegan and if the easiest substitute for name recognition is name recognition of your allies, then Mark Schauer is already publicly behind the Democrat (I've heard Joe Schwarz endorsed Pestka, but I can't find it anywhere in the public presses). |
