| Probably by now, most of you are aware that education reform grifter Michelle Rhee has put half-a-mill behind one of the groups opposed to Proposal 2. Guess what? The group she gave to has also spent money against Proposal 3. That means education reform grifter Michelle Rhee has given money to oppose windmills and solar panels. And, since that same group is working to oppose Proposal 4, that means education reform grifter Michelle Rhee is giving money to defeat the home health care initiative. She's a pipsqueak, however, compared to Super PAC donor Sheldon Adelson, who doubled up Amway Guy's $1 million contribution. It's worth noting that most of this money is backing the Very Serious Person slate of "Yes" on Proposal 1 and "No" on the rest. Rich Robinson of the MCFN says in the Bridge article that it's pretty clear that we've sent a message that democracy is up for sale. I'd say that's one of the great no-brainer comments of the year. It is, however, the world of Ayn Rand, where those who have the financial resources to do should be allowed and everyone else can go suck a tailpipe. I'm very happy that Very Serious Persons are concerned that democracy is being bought off in a wave of money. But, they really ought to follow this thing to its conclusion and see where the philosophy of "Money is speech" is rooted. Both sides might be equally guilty in doing a lot of really dumb shit, but both sides aren't equally guilty when it comes to not taking seriously the idea of "One person, one vote." |
