| Once again, Life imitates The Simpsons. I give you Mayor Quimby. Bernero left for the country Thursday morning, where he is meeting with manufacturers on an "economic mission," according to a Lansing City Pulse article. He also attended a workshop on business-friendly cities in Torino, Bernero spokesman Randy Hannan said. But the last people to learn about the trip appear to be the members of the Lansing City Council.
...snip... Lansing City Councilwoman Jody Washington said she'd first been concerned when she hadn't seen the mayor at one of Lansing's largest events, the 28th annual Silver Bells celebration.
Or, as the Springfield Shopper once announced, "Mayor visits city." By the way, for the curious, during the campaign, Mayor Quimby was quick to mention that his family tree has roots that reach into Italian soil. At least, he made a giant deal of it during the campaign. Were I a Lansingite, I'd be most curious about how much of this trip was genuinely about economic development (and asking why a mayor of a city the size of Lansing really needs to be traveling abroad for economic development) and how much was visiting the Old County from whence he hailed. |
