Michigan Senate votes to make it easier for people to pack heat in church

It's a Festivus miracle!

The Michigan Senate has voted to let people who get extra training carry concealed weapons in so-called "gun-free" zones such as schools and churches.

Michigan continues to march backward on basically everything. Other places makes it easier for homosexuals to marry. Michigan talks about making it harder for homosexuals to adopt. The nation has been stung by violent, senseless gun-related homicides. Michigan wants to make it easier for people to carry firearms in public.

It's almost as if our legislators just do shit to do shit, without paying any attention to the world around them or considering the ramifications of what they're doing.

Yikes
Doing shit just to do shit. That's about as good a description of our MI Reps as I've heard.
In other words,
They do it because they can, and also to make sure everybody knows it.

I want
I want to see someone do the partisan breakdown on these controversial votes.  From what I can read we had 11 votes against this, and I assume this broke down on partisan lines, so either a Dem abstained or voted for this insanity.  I want to know who he is, and I know it's a he.  Where can I find the partisan breakdown of votes on the legislative website?

I went to http://www.legislature.mi.gov  clicked on the link for "Bills", and went to the list of bills that were passed yesterday. You also can do a search on the legislature home page if you have a bill number or a keyword.

The link for the pdf must be unique for my search. Go to the Legislature homepage http://www.legislature.mi.gov and search for SB0059. That will give you the entire legislative history.

Gleason term limited?
They sure didn't make it easy, no D or R in the journals.

Anyway, Wikipedia doesn't have much on him.  Is he term limited, or are we running a primary?

Gleason is
on his way out the door. He was term-limited in 2014 anyway, but he is leaving the Senate at the end of the year because he was elected County Clerk in Genesee County.

He likely would've voted for this either way.

Who is up to replace him?  I'd imagine someone more progressive given the direction of the party at the moment.

Excellent discussion worth having:
Who are the prospective candidates seeking the remaining two years in coming special election? That would be an excellent front page post or diary entry from someone in, near or involved in that Senate District.

Fingers crossed that someone is able to delve more deeply into that topic. Perhaps the speculation has already begun in the pages of the Flint Journal... ?

If you're going to have "education reform" that doesn't do even ONE SINGLE THING to address the fact that the single most important predictor of a child's success in school is the involvement of the parents... well, then shit you might as well make it easier to carry a piece.  Fuck it.
