Today's unsolicited piece of advice: DON'T GO FOR A RECALL!

Yep...

People like to be able to vote on bills, and they don't like recalls unless the official commits a crime of some sort.

Make no mistake about it, though.  This fight will be much harder than Ohio.  The right have very good talking points and billionaires running ads showing "concern" for the workers they abuse.  They'll have union members who hate their unions go up and talk about their "freedom" and whatnot.  And since the bill goes into effect quickly before an attempt to recall, when the sky doesn't fall, people may be more likely to accept it.. or hope that "change" does some good.

I hope that Michigan's strong cultural identity with labor helps trump all that.  It certainly helped in Ohio.  The campaign needs to start now, and it needs to go door to door.  It needs to be relatively quiet (not now--it needs to be loud now) during the term to prevent fatigue and backlash.  The campaign needs to focus on the partisan aspect on it and how it was rammed through with no debate.

Right now, labor has to do what it did in Ohio... make the bill as toxic as possible, so that no amount of whitewashing can make it better.

They of course added an appropriation to the bill...

...so as to prevent a direct recall of the bill.  I assume challenging that has been tried before with the state supreme court and failed.  So, we're going to have to try and get yes votes on a ballot.  That stinks.
